Thanks for the comments guys. Bowlerman, I would say the felt of this one is close to a "twenty five" quality hat not too heavy ,not too thin either , the brim is really nice and pliable.

Anyone Ever Heard of Davis Hats?

My latest acquisition, a Davis 6X. By the style and construction, I'm estimating it to be pre-1955, probably 1940s. The crown is 4 3/4 inches and the brim is 2 3/4 inches. It's not in fantastic shape, as you can see, it's got a green spot on the front of the crown and the liner is filthy, torn, and droopy, but it's in my size (7 3/8), the felt seems to be pretty high quality, and it only cost $4.33 at an antique mall in Burleson, Texas. I'm probably going to try to give it a naphtha bath. I have thoroughly dusted it with a sponge and brush prior to taking these pictures.

Anyone here ever heard of the brand?

Never heard of Davis hat, but that looks like a keeper.

After some further research, I've concluded that Davis was a small time hatter in Dallas, established in 1900 as indicates on the liner. The VEB Luckenwalder Velour arrived today. Wonderful felt finish in a outstanding condition. I think rarely worn.
Size is a 56 and fits perfect. The age between 1953 - 1961. I found out, that HO Stalinallee, was foundet at 1953 and renamed 1961 in Karl-Marx-Allee

Before giving it a bath, I would send the hat to a custom hatter. Ask for a 2" ribbon to cover up the green spot. I bet someone would have a 2" brown, black, or other complimentary color. They can also attach a fresh liner and sweatband. That hat has a lot of potential. :thumb:
