Here's an interesting link for anyone that hasn't seen this before. It seems that the "United Hatters of North America" trademark was registered in 10/10/1916. I was always curious when that trademark started. We know that The United Hatters Cap and Millinery Workers International Union (UHCMW) was formed in 1934 by the amalgamation of United Hatters of North America (UHNA) and the Cloth Hat, Cap and Millinery Workers International Union (CHCMW).

Josh, there is an ad in one of the American Hatter's from Hawley or Hopkins (I can't remember) showing the union stamp and saying they would be the first hat mfg to use it. I've been going to post it. I'll find it when I get home.

I got this great Richman Bros South Gate for my son on ebay. He looks great in stingy brims, and he was needing a proper fur felt fedora for fall. Check out the edge treatment on this baby. Now I know what a Cavanagh edge is about, and I'm a fan.

Wow... almost back to page three for this thread!

I passed along my only Cavanagh a while back... loved the construction, but a very narrow brim dressy black hat... I almost never wore it. I've been looking for an older example without much success, but did recently find this mid century chocolate brown with a 2 1/4" brim. This one will see more time out in the fresh air.

That is just about the perfect hat in my estimation. Excuse me while I covet.

Interesting. What does it say under the sweat? Color/model? Buffalo?
The tooled sweat is interesting- the one that used to be on my OR-style Cav
had tooling, but most Cav sweats I've seen don't. Figured it might accompany a
particular quality designation.

I have a couple like this (photographs somewhere on this site). Favorite hats.
Take all kinds of punishment. Congrats.

Registered in 1916, yes, but it had been in use since 1885, so it's older.

The last is an cylinder of Aleisa, The Chapeau Claque factory was founded in 1905 by Albert Eisele Achern.
Therefore, this year marks 100th anniversary, which still is not sure
whether this is done publicly or family. The factory was then the fifth
Folding cylinder factory in the area Achern. She was named Aleisa, after the
Initials of the founder and the first letter of the city founder
(Albert Eisele Achern). Today there are only three Chapeau Claque factories

The postman came while I was shaving this morning. I went to the door in my towel with lather still on my head to find this sitting on the floor in the hallway. I bought it without knowing the size, and it turned out to be too big for me. Ah well, it's a beautiful hat. Someone else will love it I'm sure.

I didn't find the manufacturing label the first time I looked, but did today. Simple white label marked: XLO R 28661 461 5 1/2. Size was 6 7/8 but it graciously took a coaxing to 7+ and has held it nicely. I've only had one other Cavanagh... I hope to wear this one enough to take it through its paces.

Here is a Stetson Bantam I fished out of the bay some time ago...

This thing was pretty trashed. The sweatband wasn't wearable. I sent it to Parker at Falcon Park Hattery and he did a fine job.
