Johnny Depp Hat ???

Hello

I am new, I come from Paris and I'm looking for a short time to vintage hats.

There is a hat that I'd like to find but I can not find. This is Johnny Depp's hat brown.

Some told me it was a "Borsalino Alessandria" and others tell me it is a "Stetson Stratoliner"!

Here's the link: http://www.johnnydepp-zone.com/deppartment/catcflosangeles.php

Does anyone experienced knows what it is?

Also, I found sites that sell the "Borsalino Alessandria, but the problem is that they sell with brim edges not wide enough for me! (2-1/2 inch):

http://www.bencrafthats.com/product.php?pid=249&subcname=Felt+Hats

Other sites offer it as a replica or the Fedora Caliqo Store:

http://www.caliqo.com/
http://www.thefedorastore.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=E1541-depp&CartID=1

I want a size of 2-7/8 inch brim which corresponds to 7.3 cm wide enough then:)

Does someone could help me in my research?

Sincerely.

Ps: sorry for spelling mistakes!

I have several hats in this style made by Borsalino and Stetson. I personally think the one in the photos you provide is a Borsalino Alessandria. ;)

zetwal thank you!

I think that currently the "borsalino alessandria" comes with a 2-1/2 inch brim on the Internet.

Do you know where I can find a "borsalino alessandria" with a 2-7/8 inch brim about?

In Paris, there is not much in terms of hat (

Someone I know says Depp only wears or mostly wears straight out of the 30's with a few Borsalino hats. So the ones you see him with might be vintage; they look vintage to me.

The Borsalino Alessandria that I own has 2 3/4 inch brim all the way around. I know that because I don't like 2 1/2 inch brims either. I bought mine from Peters Brothers in Texas (www.petersbros.com).

If you want a Borsalino with a 2 7/8 inch brim, well I have three of those but bought at completely different places. One is the Borsalino WB Traveler from hats.com I think. The brim is 2 7/8 but in that case it is stiff. It's OK because it's Borsalino, but it is unlike the Alessandria. Another 2 7/8 inch Borsalino brim I have is from Hats by Haber in Silver spring, MD (I think www.hatalog.com). The brim is not stiff. Then I just bought the Borsalino beaver Ernesto model at Delmonico Hatters (www.delmonicohatters.com). Also brim of 2 7/8, but not stiff.

I measured all of the brims recently so am confident of the result. They are 2 7/8 in front, probably 2 1/2 on the sides, and 2 3/4 at the back. But I guess we call that a 2 7/8 brim. But anyway that seems a standard Borsalino size. And because Borsalino may custom-make their hats for certain retailers (like the Ernesto seems to be), you may be in for a lot of checking around to reach the goal of your ideal Borsalino hat.

Here's the hat from Panama Bob referred to in the "Panama Hat Help, Please" thread started by me. Excellent hat! Thanks, Robert.

As I related in my email to Bob, this hat is far better than the Stetson straw I paid twice the price for ten years ago. Though likely not evident in the pictures, the straw in woven with subtle patterns and has none of the courseness my Stetson has.
I asked about the availability of this hat last Thursday, paid Friday, and here it is. Robert was great in his prompt email replies and very discriptive both visually and in writing. Thanks again, and thanks to those who made the suggestion.

Lloyd, very nice. I like the way the brim has a more relaxed curl to it in the rear. That hat is a real keeper. Congratulations Lloyd, and Art for making it.

I don't really like the Stetson logo on the side.

I remember reading where someone just peeled the logo tag right off - it was stuck on with an adhesive, not even sewn - you might give it a gentle try. I agree that a logo on a hat is not appealing. I would go to great lengths to remove a tag like that.

So would I. If it doesn't peel off, I would carefully cut it off with a razor blade or X-Acto knife.

Beautiful hat, with or without the tag. I would personally take the tag off if it were my hat. I think this can be accomplished with a sharp pair of scissors and a steady hand. :) :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Super-clean and great condition, just needs a bit of re-shaping.

Straw Porkpie wide-brim from Halle Bros. Cleveland.

I wanted that one but not bad enough to BIN. Yah, just a little reshaping.

What's up with that? You think maybe the former owner wore an egg on top of his head? lol
