Here's the new cap I bought:

It's teensy bit frayed at the back edge, but it's hardly noticeable.

It's an 8-panel newsboy cap.

I received this hat during the early days of the Hurricane cleanup. I had no power from 10/29 until 11/9 so I'm posting today when I could finally find enough time to recrease, shoot, and post these images.

The hat is a carbon gray Fed IV, a hat I have wanted for a long time. I got it in like-new condition from a fellow lounger, and am very happy with it.

Here it is the way I got it:

The pinch was off-center, so recreasing it would be necessary even if I didn't change the look.

Recreased:

It's the same hat. Time of day makes a big difference with the color. The before photo is closer to the real color, as it was shot with natural light from the bathroom window.

Nice job with the pinch!

AWESOME crease on that one, Mike! I'm really glad you like the hat! Honestly, if I just saw this picture and didn't know what it was, I would say it looked like a vintage Borso. It appears that Biltmore got the shellac content just right so the felt holds shape without "spider-ing" which is the problem with so many modern hats. I'm really impressed with this hat and I HOPE they continue this type of quality in the USA, but because of different EPA laws than Canada and such, the chemicals used in the felt process might be different and therefore result in different felt. As many of us on the lounge have said, "This is the hat that HATCO SHOULD BE MAKING!"

Thanks, Josh. I haven't purchased a new hat in a long time (I became a vintage freak) but I am thrilled with this one and completely agree with you.

Ill post a picture but got a Bailey Barr hat in dark grey, after much dithering, from Delmonico Hatters. 2" brim seems to suit me best, and the price was $82 (from $100) and free shipping and was not available locally. I think this will go in between my Caribou colored Stetson Saxon (for suits) and my Bailey Yates in black (some suits, knockaround).

After this, I think it will be a custom made hat from Falcon Park or Buckaroo and this way, I can sell the two Baileys and not lose too much coin

PH. Möckel Hutfabrik, Homburg vor der Höhe, Hoflieferant Sr. Maj. d. Kaisers u. Königs (Austria) und Sr. Maj. d. Königs v. England), measures about 59cm, 130 grams, probably pre WWI. PH. Möckel Hutfabrik (1806) made the original Homburg style hat for King Edward the VII of England. I have only come across two old Möckels' (another Melone and Top Hat) and they were in very bad condition.

Manfred, you have some serious flea-market mojo! Pop a picture of that one into the No-Brand Fedoras Of Distinction thread sometime; that one certainly qualifies. :)
