I have a friend who works at Barbara Feinman in the East Village in New York, and I've bought several house-made hats there for my lady. Today, I picked up this custom-made pork pie inspired by a hat worn by Marcelo Mastroianni in Ieri, oggi, domani (Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow).

With the exception of the stitched on fake wind trolly, the quality of construction is first class

Looks to me like that's not a fake windstring, but like that's the alternate wind trolley setup where you put the loop over a button instead of the button through a buttonhole. On older hats you see it about 40% of the time.

Here are two Panamas recently acquired (actually I've had the Stetson a few years, just never did post it). One is a Stetson of indeterminate age but in flawless condition. The second I just received today and seems to be a "San Augustin Hat Co." fino. What do ya'll think?

Cuenca or Monti? The SA is like butter, like linen and so very light. It'll need some steam, to be sure, but it's a keeper.

Hey Dinerman - yes, you are right about this. Alan mentioned the same thing so I checked it out and it was indeed this kind of button and cord.

First time I'd seen this but I'm a newbie to hats with a lot to learn. Thanks for the comment!

Kkaderly, I think you're correct. That hat looks very nice indeed.

Rick, I REALLY like that Stetson, and I'll be interested to see the SA when you get it tricked out.

GratefulDawg, interesting porkpie, the ribbon is very nice.

Here's the J.C. Penny's Marathon I won off of the 'bay last week. The seller's description of the size was iffy to say the least, but I sprung for it anyway and got it at a great price. It is, however, definitely a 7 1/8, making it far too small for me. You'll probably see it in the Classifieds soon enough, but first, here are the pictures in all of their overexposed glory!

You might notice the three small mothbites in this one.

I've been looking for a little more color on my hatrack, and I stumbled across this online: Capas Hats' "Untouchable." Inexpensive yet very vintage-looking, the very stiff wool-felt hat is available in more colors than I've seen any other hat in... 22, they say (I didn't count). I love how it looks!

The hat trolley is just for looks.

Inside- a comfy fit with a leather sweatband.

A Turquoise hat that just screams "40s & 50s" to me!

Hey Neo, I wanted badly to bid on that Marathon, but got busy and forget to set a snipe thinking I had another day. What is it they say about unanswered prayers, cause my head is bigger than yours!

De Palma's Scarface (and the cocaine boom it depicted) was early 80s (not 60s).

That is true. But turquoise as a color came in in a fairly big way in the 1960s. The extent of its usage subsequently is something I don't remember. That particular hat is more likely to be 80s, you're right, possibly even 90s. Anyway I wanted to point out that turquoise was probably not much of a fashion color prior to the 60s.

Thanks Neophyte and randooch! Not sure what about the color says vintage to my tastes... I'm thinking maybe the popular automobile color of the early '50s? I initially looked at the "Powder Blue" color, but it looked a bit too "Baby Blue" to me. Ah, the dilemma of too many nice color choices... wish I had that for more different hat styles! :)

I was not trying to date the hat and have no opinion on that. I was simply pointing out that the Scarface in question has nothing to do with the 60s.
