I thought this newby might join in the fun?

Fairly recent acquisition, a Royal Stetson Waltham in a Sunset color. Not sure how it will look on the monitor, but in real life its a very olive color that leans toward tan a bit. (The 2nd picture is closest to the real color) And I'm beginning to think the stingy brims look better on me than the standard width brim fedoras.

Nice hat, the stingy looks fine, but I'm sure you could pull off a larger brim without any problem.

:eusa_doh: Now you've gone and dunit, hato, cultivating more competition for the wide-brims on the 'Bay!

Seriously, though, justanuthercap, hatophile is right, you would look swell in the wide-brims as well!

Believe me, I thought about that, then again, I should probably start limiting my purchases anyway. :(

Nah! Banish that thought! I think most of us realized when we went down this path that this is something we do because of PASSION, not practicality. Refining our purchases...THAT, I can accept. ;)

Received this hat in just before leaving town for NYC... brought it along. Had some time on the train to take pictures.

Here are a couple of others.

This is a NOS size 59cm French made (Suppless?) stingy from probably the 1970s. I received it as a gift from a hatter friend in Germany. It has a nice felt finish and interesting ribbon / bow treatment and is made to wear brim up.

I picked up this white modern TONAK Excellent Quality for about $25.00 at the TONAK factory store in Novy Jicin. They use white rabbit fur (sourced from east Europe) for their white hats so supposedly no dye is needed. I saw them sorting white rabbit fur so I guess this indeed the case. The felt on this one is not dense but it wears light and soft which is probably by design. A pretty damn nice hat for the price and the detail work is better than modern Borsalino, Stetson and Akubra IMO.

The punti size 4 bowler was destroyed (and immediately discarded, along with dead sweat), but the liner was worth the $3 at the garage sale.

set inside my milan just for the photos

The thick paper was attached to the crown with tabs of brown fabric tape. The liner is sewn to the paper, with muslin like fabric sandwiched between the liner and paper.
