Robert, That hat is amazing / unique even with the moth damage! I don't remember seeing that on the auction photos. My guess -> meant to be worn open crown?

Probably correct. Makes for an interesting Montana Peak though.

Gary White made this hat for me. It is brown, %100 Beaver. It has a wonderful rare Cavanagh edge. This is a very special hat as Cavanagh edged hats have not been made since at least Circa 1960s I believe. It has the EXACT taper that I wanted. This hat has a 2 1/8 inch brim and a one inch matching ribbon. The crown is exactly 5 inches open crowned. The bow was special made for me by Gary White. I will post more when I come off vacation.

Would you take a close up picture of the edge, please? From my understanding, cav edges have to be done during the felting process, is he getting new bodies with this treatment?

Here is the Mallory 10 that I just purchased from ebay. This hat is in immaculate condition and a great addition for me.

Aureliano, I will post some pictures once I get back to Vermont. They are older bodies, not stripped hats. He does not have many in my size (2 other colors), they have been picked over through the years. He bought hundreds of them (I think he said 1000) when the factory was going out of business.

AH! That makes more sense. don't bother posting pictures if you don't want to. I thought it was a modern cav. edge.

Nice hat, and it looks good on you. You can't really go wrong with the gray felt/black ribbon combination. It goes with so many other colors. Great choice!

I haven't seen you posting much lately, so I haven't had a chance to let you know. I've been drinking a fair amount of the Aberlour you recommended in Monteagle. I recently purchased a new bottle of it. It's interesting how it varies from one bottle to the next. Thanks for the recommendation. I like it.

Yep that is some good scotch and each batch does taste a little different but all have been good. Hope to see you guys soon. Thanks for the compliment on the hat. I am slowly getting a few nice vintage lids and have a new one from Art on order.

Greyfox, I think that a grey hat with a grey beard really looks sharp. They complement each other. Have you tried various other types of dents and creases to see what fits the hat best? You look great.

Lefty, where does your wife purchase most of her hats from? You both have a fantastic collection. Can't wait to see some of your winter photography!

Thanks, DRB. Women's hats are easy. Most of them have been found at estate/garage sales or antique shops. I don't think she's got one over $20, and most have probably been closer to $5. For every one hat I spot at a shop or sale, we've passed at least 40 women's hats.

The tough thing about women's hats is size: few are sized (they're sized in inches circumference). On the plus side, none that I've seen have leather sweats, allowing for some "give". With the possibility of wearing them at so many different angles and that bit of wiggle room, soft hats can fit many heads.

Thanks for the kind words DRB. I would love to have all my vintage hats in a teardrop configuration however I have absolutely no confidence that I could do this without damaging the hats. I have zero experience with bashing. I know that this Mallory would look 100% better in that crease. I guess I am going to have to send them out for reblocking and creasing.
