Two New Beaver Brand customs arrived today!

The Fedora Store is running clearance sale on BB custom hats in velour finish. I wound up ordering two and they came today, less than 2 weeks after I ordered.

Nice box:

Color is Sand, with Sand brim binding and 16 ligne Bordeaux band with Two Loop Bow. The brim width is 2 5/8". The only thing I couldn't customize in the clearance hats was the bash. Crown height as bashed is 4 1/2" at the pinch.

Looks stunning! How would you judge the quality as compared to vintage? It really looks good :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Second BB hat

The second hat has the same dimensions as the Sand one - this one is Navy with Navy brim binding and a 16 ligne French Blue ribbon with a "SL Bow". I plucked the feather and will probably remove the pin as well.

The velour finish on these is nice (and hard to capture with my phone camera). It isn't quite as long as the velour on my vintage Disney, but it's longer than suede.

The felt is stiff but not as stiff as you'd find on a new Western CB hat. It's about as stiff as the felt on my Akubra Campdraft; stiffer than most vintage lids but you couldn't drive nails with it. The felt is thicker than my modern Borso Como but not as thick as my Stetson Fargo. Quality is on par with my Akubra, the swratband is a bit wider than the Campdraft.

One other neat thing about these is the ability to specify reg or long oval. I'm not sure I'd pay full price for one of these when a VS custom can be had for just a bit more, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy again at the price I paid - 2 hats custom trimmed for about $300!

They look great! Super color combos. :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

I paged through the lounge looking at hat pics to get color/trim ideas. The Beaver Brand color palate is pretty extensive. Although the felt colors on the sale hats are limited, all of the ribbon colors are available.

Beaver Brand recently sent me little one inch felt samples in a range of colors I had requested to see. I don't suppose they'd like to send out dozens of those, but for the seriously interested they might.

That is perhaps the finest hat I've ever seen. Very very nice.

It's a Stetson "Golden Century" fedora. I did a little searching on the internets and stumbled upon this ad from a 1966 Milwaukee Journal, apparently it was made in celebration of Stetson's 100th Anniversary. It's got a "Mode edge" which I guess is a Cavanaugh edge on it, really nice. The only thing is that it's small for me, 6 7/8, where I usually where a 7. It should stretch out a size, no?

JLee, that is a very nice hat. I had one that is now on another loungers head. See pics of it in this thread... GoldenCentury

New non-fedora holiday hat

416p9L3HcmL__SL500_AA300_.jpg

Like many of you, each Thanksgiving I purchase two turkeys, one for the family meal and the other to wear on my head. It has been a constant source of frustration for me that my organic "turkey hat" generally goes rancid after only a few hours of wear. The fit becomes too loose and the turkey tends to slide down over my face frequently. Not to mention the unpleasant smell as the meat decays. Sound familiar? At long last, someone has produced a synthetic turkey headwear product that should alleviate some of the problems I've mentioned above. Can't wait to try mine out this Thanksgiving.
