Thanks Gaige!

Hey Guys? Does this bash have a name? Just curious, I think I've seen the same bash somewhere here in the lounge. I think I recall something about a cross. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Seeking another hat of European influence for the summer, a few weeks ago I ordered a fine-knit cotton beret from the folks at John Helmer.

I thought about a wool one, but figured that would be a bit toasty in the sun, hence the cotton. I may buy a wool beret come this autumn.

At first my dad and brothers were giving me weird looks, but what else is new? I have noticed, though, that I've gotten many positive comments from the ladies. ~_^

I kind of got the impression this was in competition with the Dobbs Rainbow maybe?

I did a quick search of the Portis hats in this forum and the liner in this one is very unique. What do you think? 50's?

This is probably a dumb question but does it matter what side the "excess is on? I am only used to seeing US military berets which were always pulled down over the right ear.

I shouldn't think it would matter, being a European, rather than military, beret.

Love that Portis GWD! The ribbon, the brim binding (which looks to match the stripes on the ribbon - a nice touch), the proportions, everything. Judging by the pictures you've posted of yourself, including your avatar, I'll bet it looks smashing on you and really goes well with your style.

Darn you all!

:eek:fftopic: I've been quite happy for many months lurking on this site. I've loved clothes all my life but have been ashamed of what passes for being well dressed today. I came across this site by accident and told my wife "look I'm not the only one" I've lurked and lurked and you lot have cost me quite a few dollars by awaking the clothes hound within me. But I can lurk no more! First Deckard and Newcastle and now the hat auction. So I'm in,
Greetings to all! And as pennance for my sins I will be offering up pics of some of my treasures.

I've seen it worn in Spain in the Basque part of the country with the excess worn forward as in a flat cap.
The side to which military berets are worn depends on the country from which the uniform originates. We Dutch wear it to the right, as the Brits and also the US do, but the French for instance wear it to the left.

My New Jimmy Pierce

I just received my first Jimmy Pierce Design Custom. I ran across his work over at COW and liked what I saw. Jimmy is a young guy that will only get better as he masters the craft. This is a real nice, gray rabbit Fedora that fits like a glove.
