I picked up a crumpled, very modern Borsalino on Facebook Market Place. Definitely not the best Borsalino I own, but couldn't pass it by at a measly €40/$46. The light blue/grey colour appealed to me. The fact that it was sold in my favourite, still in existence, oldest hat shop in Denmark was a plus.
A bit of brushing and steam brought it to life.

1950s Dobbs Homburg
Black with Black Cherry Trim
5 3/8 crown with center dent (about 6 open)
2 inch black cherry grosgrain ribbon
2 inch brim to d'orsay with 9/16 binding

Latest arrival 1950s Dobbs Homburg with beautiful black cherry ribbon and binding. The hat arrived in an ample sized box however the seller protectively wrapped the hat in a bag tight enough to leave the brim a bit boxy. Kinda started rounding out over night. The generous crown is about 6 inches open. It does not currently hold any side dents.. in fact it almost seems to prefer open over a center dent. I imagine some steam would allow it to retain various shaping. Today though it doesn’t need any casual-ing down as It arrived in time to accompany my beautiful wife and I today for our 14th anniversary dinner.

For some reason this bush as background caused the color contrast to pop a bit unrealistically in the camera. But it came out very cool. In day light it probably looks most like the on head photos.

I love it when they look like that; they sell for less and it takes not a lot of effort to get them like new again. Nice one, Steve.

Love the shape and the colors, Joe. Except for semi formal attire, I find black Homburgs with muted dark color (non black) ribbons/binding to be more wearable. The all black look is very formal or Victorian to my eye. Not so westerns etc., but the inherent formality of the homburg paired with a black-on-black color scheme is too formal for me for anything less than a suit. The all black homburg is the perfect pairing with a dinner suit/tuxedo. Your Dobbs is dynamite!

The hat factory that built this beauty is in the same area (Valle del Cervo), about fifteen kilometers from Sagliano, home of Barbisio and Cappellificio Cervo. It had the trademark registration in 1931 as Gosso Valtz and Co. but had been operating since the end of the nineteenth century.
View attachment 372712
This hat is signed only by one of the partners, I believe from the manufacture in the 1950s.

The paper label, too dry, is present and tells us that the quality is "Osiris" and the color "Muflone".

The felt is superb in color and short fur finish. It is unlined

In my collection I have only one Grosso Valtz hat and it is a fantastic hat, but they are very scarce.
It arrived in new conditions.
The measurements are as follows: the raw brims are 6.5cm, the low ribbon, is 2cm and the crown, at the lowest point, is 10.5cm.

The series of "Beautiful and impossible" goes on...
What a glorious hat, Daniele!!
I suspect the photo doesn’t do justice to the sheen of this gorgeous hat.
