Stetson Flagship

889B0428-ECE1-48D3-8FEF-7AD6A3B27D56.jpeg

Stetson Flagship
Light Silvermist felt
About 4 3/4 crown as shaped (5 1/2 open)
1 5/8 Matching silver grosgrain ribbon
2 11/16 brim with large overwelt triple stitched wafer edge
Wind trolley

The Flagship has pulled into port! This is a real beauty. The light silvermist felt has a great hand and overall feel to it. The triple stitched overwelt “wafer edge is a really nice touch. I love the matching ribbon. The liner and sweat have stars in the logo. There is a protector on the liner type but appears to be a sticker type as opposed to the sewn in variety. Inside the sweat is the $12.50 price tag placing the Flagship somewhat over the Whippet’s $10 price point. A couple small stains on the felt that may come out with a little cleaning. A bit of verdigris in the usual spot. I’m sure I am missing some details. But what else can I say… Stetson Flagship. I Did not expect to own one.

Adam Executive - The E-VENT
View attachment 368896

Adam Executive - The E-VENT
Light Pecan Colored Ultra Light Felt
4 3/4 crown as shaped - about 5 1/2 open
Unlined and vented
2 5/8 brim with very short underwelt
Two rows of brim stitching
3/4 inch matching grosgrain ribbon
Box pleat/gills treatment

The latest arrival, which came off a hot tip from Brent @deadlyhandsome, is the Adam Executive - E-Vent. It was without a doubt the unusual ribbon styling with a decorative wind trolley button sewn on for good measure along with the cool vent pattern that caught my eye. But upon arrival there is so much more to love. This unlined felt is super soft and ultra thin. That sort of “blow a crease in it” kind of felt… but somehow incredibly obedient. The brim is 2 5/8 with a narrow underwelt and two rows of brim stitching. I couldn’t tell if the E-Vent sweat cooling system really worked… but it did FEEL like it was cooler.. may have been my imagination. It really is an Exquisite hat that fits absolutely perfectly. Thank you again Brent for thinking of me on this one.

Well, that's a winner for sure, Joe. Unlined, vented, boxpleat: fantastic.

A secondhand custom homburg from Joe The Hatter Custom Hats, Harrisburg, PA. “Style Bilt Hats” “Supreme Individuality”. Equal to the nicest homburgs I’ve seen from Stetson, Borsalino, etc.

Fabulous find, Brent. I'm guessing you and the good dr. Wilson have/had the same taste in homburgs.

my latest from Mike at Northwest Hats - Navy Homburg with burgundy ribbon

Very nice. Those colours work well together.

Last hat taken from a Borsalino felt and worked by Fleur
View attachment 369212
The hat was originally for women and very large in proportions, bought in the USA.
View attachment 369213
It size was 57 cm a 7 in US, but the brims were wide that it could be reblock into a 59 1/2 which is my measurement
View attachment 369214
What deeply attracted me was the "Prussian Blue" color and the velour finish.
View attachment 369215
The transformation was done with a tone-on-tone ribbon and a hat shape with wide brim and a full-sized crown.
View attachment 369216
measurements are as follows: brims at 6.5 cm. keep the original hemming so the same color was used for the ribbon, it is 4.5cm high and the crown at its lowest point is 11cm.
View attachment 369217
The operation was very successful despite the enlarged size and the "resistance" of the Borsalino felts in losing the original imprint
Magnificent colour and great work again by Fleur.

Congrats, Joe. A hat of real stature added to the fold. I do wonder why Stetson made some of them with the usual grosgrain ribbon and some with petersham.

Some sellers don't know and really don't care. Found this one at an auction for €2. I'll have that, thank you very much.
Borsalino fedora in grey (no label inside the hat).I think it's a bismuto colour. Qualitá extra superiore. Size 57 with the raw edge brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 10,5cm. Likely mid to late sixties or even early seventies. The lack of a label could mean it was made for Borsalino by another manufacturer.
Lightweight hat at only 98 grams.

not much more I can ask for as a Florida hat. May have set a record for me being on top my head four days in a row :D

Congrats, Joe. A hat of real stature added to the fold. I do wonder why Stetson made some of them with the usual grosgrain ribbon and some with petersham.

It is interesting how much variation there was with this named model whereas the Whippet and Strat were for the most part the same look over their runs. I’m guessing they were trying to pin down what should be the look. Also for only $2.50 over the Whippet’s $10 price point it doesn’t seem that many folks went for the upgrade.

I know some don’t care for the look of the petersham… and I sorta get it. It really does go nicely on those earlier ones. But there is something about the wider ribbon on this one that gives off that stately vibe you described.

Mine has a petersham ribbon and while I usually do not like those on my hats, it seems to fit the Flagship rather well. It is a great hat, but like the Whippet we run the risk of attributing magical qualities to it, which is does not have. Stetson has made a number of hats that are its match or more in my opinion. Along with its higher price it could be the reason why it didn't take off like Stetson's more popular models.

Royal Stetson Whippet

Royal Stetson Whippet
Medium to Dark Bluish Grey
4 3/4 crown as shaped (about 5 1/2 open)
1 5/8 black grosgrain ribbon
2 1/2 brim with 3/8 grey grosgrain binding

Though I’ve been making an effort limit the arrival of new hats of late and I had been doing fairly well until four hats were special enough to slip past my ‘HAS’ defenses in the same week. But I do have to think if you have a 4 hat week and the hat you are least excited about is a Stetson Whippet… it’s probably a real good hat week. This whippet is definitely not without its faults though it came at a price I could not pass up. Could use a cleaning in some spots…. There is a small tear in the rear of the brim I will attempt to repair… and the sweat has some tears. And while a steaming may be in its near future… A good brushing allowed it to shape nicely and revealed its real nice real nice coloring.

The fourth hat by the way will have to wait for a little bit longer as the seller is a bit delayed in their shipping… but I do believe it will not disappoint.

Thanks to a tip from Stefan @steur i bought this black Barbisio. It's in a very great condition. According to the seller it's from the 60's. Who knows?
I'm very pleased with it..... View attachment 370932 View attachment 370933 View attachment 370934 View attachment 370935 View attachment 370936 View attachment 370937 View attachment 370938 View attachment 370939 View attachment 370940 View attachment 370941

Looks great, Marcel. I'd say that time frame was about right.
Stefan is great at finding and selling hats on to his fellow Loungers. He's also very generous in his tips.
