I don’t know if anyone had Caxton on their mystery hat bingo card. Looks like it’s made by Mac LachlanMystery hat #1 arrived. It’s a Caxton 10, size 7. Into the sale/trade pile...

A wonderful hat. Enjoy! My 20-21 WPI Montecristi Fino from Brent Black has arrived. I ordered the Classic Fedora style with a 1-1/16" Havana Brown band. I also opted for a 2-1/2" brim. Everything seems to be perfect.
The blocking job is miles ahead of the condition that my last Montecristi Fino arrived in. The pin is a nice addition. The feather is mine.
The brim is soft, but snaps easily with gravity. The brim curl from the front profile is a bit uneven (the left side curls a bit higher than the left).
The rear brim curl is a bit uneven as well, but is as expected from a hand-blocked hat.
I opted for the dark brown leather sweatband to match the hatband. In addition, the underside of the hat is in perfect condition.
Here's a picture of the underside of the brim from the Brent Black panama (left) and my Montecristi Fino from Panamahatcollection.com (right). As you can see, the right panama has some unnatural discoloration from my stiffening it multiple times. I'm glad to not see this on the Brent Black panama.
Overall, I am pleased with my Brent Black panama. I don't think I would ever need to reshape the brim, which was a headache on my previous Montecristi. I guess proper blocking does do the trick.
Thought you might go for that one. I find these made under license Dobbs hat on occasion in the vintage shops. Well made hats, but usually very much sixties and seventies styled. The stitching is certainly not original.Bought this Dobb's today. Don't like the white stitching in front of the hatband, but i can take that of.... That is a great score, Jack. Looks wonderful. Finally arrived a little wonky in a recycled box a bit too small, a Knox American Royal. With an embroidered liner & an Arminto-like underbinding. More after I get a chance to work out the wonkies.

A size 7 you say. Well, what do you know?
Could you post a close-up of the brim binding, Bob? I thought I saw a row of stitches next to the brim ribbon, which had me thinking it might be European. I was wrong about that, but did I at least see the stitches right?
Yassss! Thank you, Bob. I can still spot a stitch at 20 meters distance (or at least 20cm from my screen). Are you taking notes, Jim @Frunobulax ?
