This came in the last day of 2020.
Stra Barbisio Extra Lusso in Quercia (oak). Yes, I know it's green, but like so often: if you see gills this close you're already lost.
Size 56 with the raw edge brim at 6cm and the crown at 10cm. Weighs 115 grams. Love the shape of this one (the flange especially) and the felt is fabulous; thin and tight with a nice soft hand.

It brought its big brother with it as well.

Barbisio Rat Gondin (nutria). Size 61 with the brim at 7cm and the crown at 12cm at the center dent. I can't tell you the colour because the stitches of the sweatband are fragile and the band itself feels quite stiff even if it looks in perfect shape.
At one point in its life the hat was hit by a small ember (I think) because a tiny hole can be seen on the top of the crown in the third pick. Must have burned right through the felt, because it even left a small mark on the liner. You'd have to know it was there though; it's hardly noticeable handling the hat.
Not a common hat in this size and type of felt. Weighs 148 grams.

The first hats of the New Year.
Our Hornskovs turned up on New Year's morning. Finally, we got to say Merry Christmas to each other!

My "Broker" in camel with a moss ribbon. This has a bigger more imposing crown than I expected, but that's OK. I think I'll enjoy wearing it.

My wife's "Low Author" also in camel but with a wine ribbon.

Both are fine looking hats. Congrats on ringing in the new year with these.

Stephen L Stetson - Never Connected in ANY Way

Stephen L Stetson - Olympic Quality - Graphic
4 1/2 crown as shaped (about 5 1/4 open)
1 inch black grosgrain ribbon
2 1/4 brim with 1/8 grosgrain binding

Stetson.. Stephen L Stetson. I’ve had a hankering for one of these SLS hats since I believe I saw @Redfokker post about his and the Stephen L Stetson story. @Randall Renshaw alerted me to this one a few weeks back and I couldn’t pass it up. A lot for me to like about this hat. Proportions work great... the felt feels very good in hand and responds very well. It includes the Never Connected in Any Way liner disclaimer and also features the unique Carter Trademark Detachable leather sweat system. The manufacturing tag lists the model or color as Graphic.... I couldn’t get a good photo of the whole tag as it is pinned in under the Carter detachable sweat buttons. Taking a guess at 1950s on this one with plastic liner tip protector.

I like the idea of simply unbuttoning a problem sweatband to detach it and being able to replace it in your own in a few seconds. Too bad these functions didn’t work out or catch on.

Hey all!
Here"s a refurb project I've been working on.
Almost a year ago I saw this hat on Etsy. Marked only with 'Brandon' and 'Showerproof', it just had something to it that caught my eye and held my attention. Several weeks of wembling later, I bought it. Didn't get pics of it out of the box, as it was in need of some steam and love before it was presentable.
I did get some pics of the sweat and tags and liner.

20210102_173619.jpg 20210102_173734.jpg 20210102_173710.jpg 20210102_173651.jpg

Unfortunately, shortly after I took these pics, the stitching holding the unreeded sweatband to the felt disintegrated.
Bummer.
As my vision was not up to the task of sewing in a new sweat, I considered sending it out to one of the hatters here on the Lounge, and then the world went crazy. I decided to save my money for important things like TP and hand sanitizer. Oh yeah, all that rice and dry beans too...
So the hat sat on a shelf, gathering dust and more wrinkles.
Then, a couple months ago, I went in for an eye exam, and found out that my declining vision was due to cataracts, not from a worsening of my retinopathy as I had feared. I got one eye done, then the other a month later. I'm still blind from the previous damage done by the diabetes, but now have a lot more light and color in my life, and a bit more detail as well. With the help of a pair of magnifying eyeglasses I decided to try a sweatband replacement. Turned out the old ribbon was disintegrating from age as well, so a full refurb was in order.
My sewing machine kept jamming as I tried to do the sweatband seam, so it took a few tries. My worst seam ever, looks like someone pulled all the pins out of the dude from Hellraiser's face and strung a shoelace through some of the holes. But it held together. And, if I shoot it like this nobody knows.

Closeup of the brim.

20210102_165437.jpg

The brim is 2 1/2",the open crown a full 6. Originally 121g with the unreeded sweat. The thin, dense felt is 80g of the weight. Now 131g (or 118g 1without the liner, which is how I"m keeping it).
I haven't heard of Brandon as a hat maker, so I'm guessing it was a jobber hat. The tags, dimensions, brim treatment, unreeded sweat and general condition of the hat make me think pre-war, but as always opinions pro and con are welcome.
Head shot.

Stefan, Thank you! Your Stra Barbisio "Extra Lusso" is all around fantastic!
Thank you, Steve.

What, people don't like green hats? That's just crazy talk!
I know! Who would think of such a thing?;)

Given the price of these hats, the name "cashfelt" seems appropriate!:)

Another beauty!
Thanks, Randy.

The Stephen L Stetson story certainly is interesting. That's enough reason to go for this one. And it's a good looking hat as well.
