The second of a trio of imperfects

Borsalino Qualità Extra Superiore size 6 1/2 or 7 1/2 US. True size

The felt had some traces of moths, so Fleur of Penumbra Hat minimize them

Felt color is "Ghiaccio" with a short hair finish and the ribbon is contrasting. The small invasion of red on the felt is given by the color of the red bricks of the house.

The proportions are as follow: overwelted brim with a single seam are at 6 cm. the crown is 11 cm. high

Made in the historical Borsalino factory in 1977 it is in excellent conditions

The restoration work has succeeded very well and this makes me happy because I really like the hat and among the many Borsalino in the collection this is a rare color.
It is a beautiful hat and certainly worth being rescued. Perfection, maybe not, but close!

Not sure why I bought it other than it’s my size and I’m a sucker for a homburg. The felt is decent but nothing like vintage.

So I won a few hats on shopgoodwill and picked them up at my US PO Box on my trip through Washington and up the Oregon coast. Combined with the few hats that I was travelling with and the couple I found in vintage stores it made for a funny moment. She is not nearly as impressed as me.

If you think she's not impressed now, I SURE wouldn't tell her you posted that picture on here! ;):D Women are unreasonably touchy about photos when they're not "made up", perfectly posed, etc., but I expect you already know that. You are a brave man! :)

OK, so much for my little joke (very little - HA). This Peacock green Strat is amazing. Very soft felt, light weight, and fits like a glove. When it arrived in the mail, I didn't do a thing to it, just put it on my head and wore it like a king! Lots more wear for this one in the fall when temps cool down!

If she's not impressed now just wait until your hat collection covers the entire bed, the chair in the corner, the dresser, the doorknobs, any other flat surface, ...

Yeah, fortunately I have a large home office and a big mechanical room in the basement to store stuff in.

Also being a furniture maker she knows if she gives me too hard of a time she no longer gets new furniture pieces and cabinets on demand so we have an understanding. Besides a new piece means a new hat surface! I’m sure I will endure some comments and funny looks but I’m experienced in this act already.

5 days ago I left a whopping $63. under my pillow. Today the tooth fairy left this on my porch. This gentleman knows how to pack a parcel. The Lone Star Dude stands a generous 6.5" tall with 3.5" curled brim. Some carefully placed moth bites add some charm to this aged piece of Texas history. It fits just a bit snug but will be driving to see David at Texas Hatters next week for a minor cleanup, sizing, and a new Lone Star hatband. Yeehaw.

It's NOT the purchase that has her worried. It's the fact you laid them ALL on the bed. According to cowboy superstition, placing your hat on your bed brings general bad luck to the owner of the hat. It's said that rodeo cowboys will avoid doing this at all costs, because they believe they will lose their next rodeo, can cause death and / or serious injury. So I've heard. ;)

VS lightly used navy blue. I was afraid it would be too big based on the seller’s description, but it fits like it was made for me.

I did a minor re-block and the open crown was a full six inches. The bound brim is 2 5/8 inches wide.

Stunning hat Brent. I bet that Navy blue really pops in person. It looks a bit black on my screen, I can only imagine how beautiful it really is. Very nice get!. Seems VS's are in a bit of demand lately. ;)

It’s a very dark navy blue. I brought out a black hat as a prop in some of the photos just to juxtapose the colors and bring out more of the blue.
I was on the cusp of ordering a custom Winchester beaver in navy...I just saved myself $300 so I should buy another hat to celebrate!

Yeehaw indeed!

You’re going to rock that hat Ken.

They were just a bit more expensive back in 1977 when you included the band.

Now you need to look for some boots!

I have one with the Lone Star band, but is not the Dude. You can still get the bands new, but they are as much as a decent custom hat.

Great story Bob. I've researched it a bit and saw those ads you posted. This hat also came in a great looking straw version as well. I'm not surprised you have a similar one in your stable too. lol. Thanks so much for sharing it. I've got a nice pair of black cherry custom Eldorado boots to go with this hat when the time comes. Maybe a vintage Lone Star Tshirt would work, but no lone star logos on my boots! ;)

Thanks for the knowledge Ken. There must be a counter. Perhaps wearing them all in one day will reverse the bad luck? Or is this where someone says I must gift my 7X CB to break the curse?
