I only bid thirty dollars, I think. I didn't think I would win. Worth every penny. After Ignacio cleaned it, it looks and feels like new. He took care of a couple of shallow moth nibbles, too.

Borsalino bismuto, size 58. Bound brim at a good 5cm and crown 10,5cm at the pinch. Bismuto seems to have been a very popular colour, because I see hats on this colour on a regular basis.

A modern Borsalino in size 55. I bought it because of its unusual colour, which I cannot name because the modern ones no longer list it on the label. Raw edge brim at 6cm and crown 11 cm at the pinch.

Borsalino Qualitá Speciale in the colour Sider in a size 61. Bound brim at 5,5cm and crown 11,5cm at the pinch. This one has a discoloured ribbon which has faded from the dark grey Buio colour to a blue-ish tone.

Borsalino Export Qualität Gran Lusso homburg or lobbia in the colour Morello, which is a very dark brown. Very unusual colour and not seen very often, certainly not on a homburg. Size 58 with a bound brim at 5,5cm and crown 10cm in front. Not my size, so it's going up for ale, auction or trade.

Here's something unusual. This week we've seen some German manufactured Excellent Stetsons popping up. Steve @mayserwegener and Georg @Steinbockhase posted examples of those. Well, I found one too yesterday. Excellent Stetson, made under license in Germany. This one is a Stratoliner in black (which is quite unusual I gather). Size 57 (7 1/8), bound brim at 7cm and crown 10,5cm at the pinch. This one looked like someone had been sitting on it for a month (I really should take "before" pics), so it did take quite a bit of steaming to get it back to glory. Seemed to fit me in the store, but after steaming and shaping I found it is a roomy 57, so too large for me (dammit), so another one for sale, auction or trade.

Thanks, John. I bet he could, but I wouldn't want to deprive my fellow hat-wearers of the chance to add something in their size to their collection. I have a reputation as enabler to uphold after all!

Stetson Excellent "Stratoliner", 58cm, probably later 1950s. Made by Mayser in Germany under license and is in NOS condition. The unique color is listed as Peacock. The color will show better in sun light. The lighter weight felt has a Chamois like finish and easily dry creases.

Now that is the quintessential fabulous esoteric find. A NOS 60-year-old Stetson Stratoliner made by Mayser in peacock no less. Wow! I never ceased to be amazed. Thank you, professor!

Dobbs really made some exquisite hats in the mid 20th century. Very nice, Max. Your growing collection is fantastic.
