I second that.
Fantastic find, Michael!
Thanks Charlie. It would be one of my oldest hats if that dating holds up.

What a beautiful liner!

Thanks Max. The liner is in pretty good condition and I like that coach logo.

I think that is one of the older liner logos as seen on the Hatted Professor website. It sure is purdy. Love that bow, I would say $16.50 might have been a higher end at this vintage.
Thanks Red. The felt does have a higher quality feel to it. I have the patent that is referenced on the paper label located and I'm going to give it a read today.

Thanks all,
Michael

Dobbs Westward, thinking late 40s or 50s. Awesome hat, great shape. Original box.

Any ideas on the age of this one?

Michael
Don't know anything about dating Dobbs hats, but I like the look of this one.

My mystery Dobbs Game Bird Fifteen arrived. I knew it was going to be a stingy, but I had no idea it would have such a low crown. Additionally, despite the seller insisting there wasn’t a paper label hiding behind the sweat the label was there plain as day. :(

I don’t know when Dobbs stopped making the Game Bird but I have to believe this was close to then. If anyone is interested in the hat CHEAP send me a PM. The heather felt is nice, but there are a couple of bites. The underwelt brim is deeply flanged and I think it would make a good pork pie for someone.

I would say you wear it well, Brent. But this is just not "you". Bummer.

Friday was a different day hatwise. I had promised I would sin no more. Fell off the wagon so hard that the wagon seems to have ended upside down in a ditch. Let's start.

Saks homburg (of sorts). Size 7 with the brim at 4,5cm an the crown 11cm in front. This may actually be more like the original homburg with its pronounced taper and very narrow brim, but it feels 'costumy' to me. Not like what we've come to expect from homburgs these days. I added the brim curve, which improves it somewhat. Very well made hat though and it's a great colour. The label looks exactly like the ones on my Knox hats, so they might be the maker. As soon as the next 19th century costume drama gets made I'll be ready for it.

Wow! That's a great one Stefan. You know I'm a sucker for a Homburg. No one could stay on the wagon once tempted by that beauty. Great colour and style. Nice find.

Next one. Knox Twenty in grey. Custom edge at 5cm and crown 10,5cm at the pinch. Lovely little hat and all the Knox quality is there and the colour is a nice warm grey. Just a little stingy.

Thanks, Steve. It's a fascinating and beautiful hat, but destined to be a benchsitter I'm afraid. Still worth it though. Hang on, there's something coming for you next.

And the next. It's getting better. Sometimes you come across a hatbrand you've never seen before but it still ticks all the boxes. Here's one of those. I'm even unsure about the brand. Burghausen styled by City Club. German made (I think) in a great colour colour combination. Size 57 (damn) with the brim at 6cm and the crown 11cm at the pinch. Nice hand to the felt and it shapes easily. That's all I can say about it really.

It just looks too good to be a bench-sitter, Stefan. I'm sure with your elegant style you'd be able to wear that Homburg with panache.

Great pick ups, Stefan.
Thanks, guys. It is very satisfying to go on a hathunt and not come back emptyhanded. And a few of the hats I'm posting I brought back with some members here in mind.

Something else. Meister Filz Record in grey. Size 57, with the bound brim at 6,5cm and crown at 10,5cm at the pinch. I've had one of these before in brown, which is now residing in Copenhagen. Lovley hat, but too large for me. This comes as close to an American styled hat as any European hat. Full straight crown and fairly wide brim.

Next one. Interesting to compare it to the previous one.
Penney's Marathon in grey. Size 7, with the bound brim at 6,5cm and crown 11cm at the pinch. I didn't have a Penney's marathon yet and this does have some stains, but a very nice addition to the collection nonetheless. And gills! Thanks go out to Mike, who found this one for me.

Another Knox now. Know Twenty backbow in grey. Size 7 with the custom edge brim at 6cm and crown at 10,5cm at the pinch. Great proportions and the great quality I've come to expect from Knox. The fairly shallow flange is great. I'm a bit on the fence about the backbow though. I have a few of these and don't seem to wear them much. I'm considering a change of ribbon.
