Just got home from two weeks traveling to find much to my delight, the two Stetson Fredericks I had ordered. One in Navy, the other in Caribou. But hang it all, they are both too large! You can clearly see the label that says 58 / 7-1/4, but they fit large. Since I ordered them Long Oval, they aren't returnable. Guess I'll have to put spacers in the headband...

Wearing them around for a while will probably settle them on your head. Start out with the spacers, and as they tighten, remove the spacers. With daily wear this process will go quicker than you think......

Spacers already added. We're having Noah-like weather these days, so I'm not ready to wear them outdoors. Wearing them indoors while working from home? That's another thing!

I've not had much success using steam. To date, I've worked with my Akubra Campdraft open crown, using a tea kettle. Maybe, as some have predicted, I need to purchase a steamer...

Interesting, I just got my campdraft last week and have had success with a teapot.

Hi Mike! No, it's navy blue. A color I wear a lot. The only navy hat I had up to this one was the pork pie.

Josef Pichler & Söhne Graz, 56cm, possibly later 1930s early 1940s (see below). The hat is in NOS condition but unfortunately the brim was trimmed down to 2 inches. It came with the 1930s light green JHS "Standard Crystal Velour" I posted last week and was sold by the same store Rudolf Hanus Wien so it could be from a similar time period. The overall quality of this hat is high and the felt is fantastic (color, finish, hand). Josef Pichler was a brother of the more well known Anton Pichler.

Picked up another Wrangler Montecristi, though not as nice as the first one. No indication who it was made by as the first one said made by Miller Bros. This one just says made in TX. Listed as a twenty star with a lamb skin sweat. Dimensions are a bit smaller at 3 1/2" x 6" with a 6" OC with a lot of taper and a wire reinforced brim. The weight is 3.8 oz. as opposed to the 4.25 oz. of the earlier one. Same mesh Wrangler liner. This hat's body is not as well made as my first one. A few flaws in the weave and way too much stiffener was used. Around a 350-400 wpsi as opposed to the over 500 on the earlier one. Appeared to be NOS as the tags were still attached and it came with a cattlemen crease that was so low it scraped the top of my head due to the amount of taper in the crown. The better hat listed for $120.00 as opposed to this ones $175.95 listing so I assume it was a later production. Still, for an actual Montecristi in western proportions, I'm happy.
