I'm guessing this one late forties to mid fifties. And the price would indicate that too. Weren't the 3x hats all $15.00 in the forties?

I was also leaning, after hearing the price, toward the early '50s.

I humbly disagree, the earlier Stetson's I've seen with that Circular logo have the names of the cities around the outside, New York,Philadelphia, Paris and London

I think the most telling detail on this lid is the way that the sweat is attached, which mirrors Stetsons from the early 40's (see tons of johnnyphi auctions). From the evidence I've seen, Stetson had switched to reeded sweats by the late 40's, and this would certainly be true for 50's lids.

Also, the gold circular logos used for 3X or 7X Clear Beaver lids are something different from the circular logos you mention that name the various cities. In light of all that, I'm not quite sure that the price tag is an original one. It might be interesting to see a photo.

Cheers,

Thanks for all the info, guys. The price is just on a little square sticker from 'The Broadway', not original to the hat - it's on the inside of the leather sweat. Embossed on other side of sweat in gold, is 'The Broadway Los Angeles Hollywood Pasadena'.

And, nice ensemble Chanteuse Carey. Get a trolley so you don't have to hold that lid down :D

That's a beauty.

CC - also looking good.

put a quick teardrop bash in it (dry), I kinda like the "home brewed" lumps and bumps but will probably refine it to make it look smoother later.

My new mid brown Campdraft arrived today from EA. It's too big, and the button in the wind string is broken. It's most likely to go back.

Did you get mine? Just kidding. They seem to be having quality issues at EA, see my rant in Campdraft thread. Tough luck Bob. I wanted to get mine before it got too warm to wear.

I did read of your troubles with EA, Tom. We'll see if they address my issue any sooner than they have addressed yours.

I got more bad news too. I ordered a milan teardrop from Miller Hats which came too small. I sent it back for a larger size two or three weeks ago. They called yesterday to say they're out of the size I want in all of the colors I would consider. They asked if I wanted a center dent, and I said no so they're sending me a credit voucher to use later. :rage:
