They look great now. Some liner shots? How old is a Dobbs Broadstreet? Have not noticed this model name before.

This particular Dobbs is probably from the later 80's......I have another one from the 70's in sage green. They have been making that model for a long time...I think it was their answer to the Stetson Playboy.......much like Stetsons many hat models (the Sovereign, or Stetsonian for example) through the years the dimensions of the hats changed some, though for this hat they all seem to have a felt crown band. The biggest difference seems to be the brim width. My brown is an 2 1/4, while the sage is 2 5/8. Their original bash would have been quite differant as I have re-blocked and creased both hats.
The medium grey Knox is from the 70's.......
The liners are unremarkable......but I will try to get some inside pictures. The brown Dobbs does have a black satin liner.

What did you use for stiffener?

I use differant stiffeners with differant felts and colors. I have both resin and spray starches as well as liquid starch with poly resins that work well with wools.....
I would have to look to see which I used on the Knox....
Cheers,
M

Today, I present the "Olcott", a early century styled homburg created by Mike Miller. Named after the Hon. Ben W. Olcott, former Governor of Oregon (1919-1922) and a Regent of Oregon Agricultural College c.1913. I only get to wear it for a couple of photos as it is my 60th Birthday present, a week away. Like Bob, I get to take some photos, but have to box it back up til next week. I feel your pain Bob! Here is a quickie from the pick up in Eugene.

This Royal Stetson was described as gray with a black band. It's sized at 7-3/8 LO so I was interested. IIRC, it went through one auction cycle with no bids no action at all. So when it came up again, I made a lower offer and it was accepted. The pictures look more brown, so even though the ad said gray I took a little chance on that. I don't generally believe "special" stories in ads but the hat looked really nice I moved on it.

Turns out this back bow beauty (brown ribbon, not black) is more of a very light brown-gray kind of color that I really like. The felt is very nice, it has a triple-stitch over welt, and it fits well so I'm happy! It came in a Dobbs box (seems my hats rarely come in the correct box; what's up with that crap???)

Someone along the went overboard trying to remove a sticker. Ughh. But the size tag puts this somewhere in the 40's, right?

Looks great Red. Did u move the pinches back? I like it that way. I got to wear mine for 2 days before my Fam made me box it back up for Xmas.
Mike did the original bashing. We are trying to match the c.1913 photo as close as possible. Deep center dent, ready for a crease clip (for special occasions) and long deep side dents. These are evident in the photo of a much more "broken in" hat. The images do not catch the details as well as I wanted. More photos in multiple threads soon. I'm so happy with it!!

Dlaniger hat is splendid!
It is very much in my tastes in both form and especially in the finishing of felt
You know that I have a soft spot in my heart for hairy felts
I also add that Optimo is the most "Italian" manufacturer of those I have seen the hats here on FL
There are in his hats many characteristics of the Italian hatters tradition.
Some forms of Optimo hats and their finish in felt and the details are very similar to those of the hatters of the Valle del Cervo (north of Biella - Piedmont), in short, very strongly resemble the hats of "Cappellificio Cervo" and "Barbisio".
This is a huge compliment to you and to your hatter in Chicago:)

Wow, that hat is just perfect! Beautifully proportioned, just the right size ribbon and bow, and the finish looks so luxurious. And you can't go wrong with a colour called cognac ;) Thank you for the detailed pictures.
