I love that quote !!!!But do you love the smell of napalm in the morning? (My memory smell of that era was JP4 at 3AM)
This is one of the things I truly appreciate about The Lounge and it's members. Sure we like hats and want to make them our own, but there's a level of respect for the history they had before we got our hot little hands on them and that sometimes outweighs our desires....3.- A Pith Helmet. My first one was a real army hat wored by the uncle of a friend in WWII, she gave it to me but I never felt entitled to wear a hat with that pedigree, so it is on a display stand...
FoR what it may be worth, to remove some massively deep stains from the brim of an old SLS , after using hat cleaner on it(about 4 times), I used Shout-advanced-gel directly on the stains (twice), and it substantially reduced /deminish the stains !Yeah, I don't worry too much about catching anything weird from hats. I figure if it doesn't smell weird, any bacteria or other killer substances are dead and gone long ago, since most of that stuff doesn't live too long away from living tissue or moisture. I generally just pick hats up and stuff them onto my head as soon as I discover them, which is exactly what I did with this one. It was a complete surprise that it fit, since the size tag at the rear of the hat had "7" without the 1/4. Since I've run across mislabeled hats in the past, my general reaction to hats that tell me there's no way they'll fit is to throw them on and check it out anyway. VERY glad I did so with this one! I really just mentioned the stains for my wife's peace of mind. She's a bit of a germaphobe. She feels much better about it now! Thanks!!

WOW! Another killer looking hat! Soon you will need a special hat museum...if nothing else but a place to store your large collection!Well, my hat addiction began with my wish to own 5 hats,
1.- A Panama Tardan, like my granpas, that, was my first good hat.
2.- An Indy Fedora, I have a lot now.
3.- A Pith Helmet. My first one was a real army hat wored by the uncle of a friend in WWII, she gave it to me but I never felt entitled to wear a hat with that pedigree, so it is on a display stand. Anyway I got a beautiful one and a repro of the Afrika Korps one.
4.- A Stetson Safari, like one I saw a guy wear in the 1980's in Disney World, got it last year on Ebay, had to reblock it etc, but looks great.
And
5.- Col. Kilgore's hat.... Now I have it..
