You took those words right outta my mouth. I didn't want to label that great bash but that's EXACTLY what it is!Almost a reverse "Gus" crease. I like that idea. Great hat, just a lot of brim to handle. Should be great for sun/rain protection.
I can see why. I like open crown. I've often tried an open crown but I just can't seem to get my edge on.I dig mine like this

The Bushman's brim might not be wide enough to replicate that hat. It is just wide in comparison to its closest "relative", the Campdraft. If I could find a 4+" brim with a 5" open crown I would make a replica of a Planters hat to wear to living history events. Maybe the Bushman is something to look for?
That open crowned Bushman looks great on you! Wish I could pull that off myself.I dig mine like this

Here is a nifty one...
An ASCO Hats derby. The American Hatter, Vol. 46, February 1917 lists ASCO as a special brand of Cohn-Asher Hat Company of Los Angeles. I'll post pics of the hat in here and later post info about the company and what little I have gleaned about its history later in the Bowler thread.. The venting on this is fantastic and it looks as though someone might have wandered out of a store with this brand new on his head a few weeks ago. <br />/QUOTE]
Nifty is right! What an interesting lid. Congrats on the acquisition sir. I will read with interest to future posts about this hat. It looks very special. Best, Eric -

i tried every bash I could think of on mine ... none seemed to look right with the large brim ... I thought the cattleman looked best but I don't like a cattleman on myself ...
... so I blocked out the crown back to open and I wear it like that ... I dig it
The Akubra Territory with it's 4" brim X 5-1/2" crown would probably come the closest. I really don't know the brim width on the planters hat. The 5-1/2" crown would certainly be enough to work with to draw it down into a deep telescope like the planters hat. But it does have the taper. The Territory has a deep packer draw on the brim front & back brim, & I don't know how stiff the felt is. Maybe it would flatten & the pencil roll would help stiffen it up.Slamming a Spirit of Australia?
Close but no cigar! Tapered crown and just a 3.6" brim (+ very, very stiff felt)
I'm jealous as hell of that 25.View attachment 44193 View attachment 44194 View attachment 44195 View attachment 44196

Any help dating (age) this hat and the Modelslr would be appreciated.
How do you like it, Rick. I have been thinking about one of these for a while. Let me know your thoughts.....
I really like it, Harv! But Anthony is right. It seems to look best in a cattleman crease. I've tried a fedora type crease and not in love with how large the brim is in comparison to the crown with that crease, but looks perfectly acceptable in a cattleman crease. I love the felt and it will be a great hat to wear in the elements. More of an outdoorsy hat than the CD in my opinion. Might be my go-to travel hat when I don't want to risk a vintage. How do you like it, Rick. I have been thinking about one of these for a while. Let me know your thoughts.....
Thanks Rick. I wonder if it would look good with a western crease like this, if the crown is tall enough....I really like it, Harv! But Anthony is right. It seems to look best in a cattleman crease. +1Thanks, Harv. One of the nicest I've laid hands on. I think that Bone Tomahawk hat will be killer.
