Received a Stratoliner from Canada this morning. Could hardly wait to try it on.

It's more of a greenish-khaki that the seller's notion of brown. Here's a side-by-side with my chocolate brown Cavanagh.

The hat is far from perfect, but at least I now have one of the hats I've been wanting.

The ribbon is sweat-stained.

There's a spot of something sticky on the back of the crown.

Someone put a STAPLE in the sweat (promptly removed).

But I now have a Stratoliner!

Any suggestions for someone to refurbish this one to bring it back to life?

No idea how you bring a hat back to life, but I love the color. Very versatile!

S4C, I haven't seen anything that will completely eliminate the sweat stains on the crown ribbon. Mine was in a similar state, I removed it and turned it around and inside out so the offending sweat stains were at the back and less visible.

A hat brush and a tea kettle can work wonders to clean up old felts.

If you need to touch up or reshape the brim or crown you'll have to get some hat blocks and brim flanges. Beware as the Stratoliner had specific a hat block #122 and brim flanges were also proprietary. If you're not careful you could alter the character of the hat.

Try misting and throughly saturating the ENTIRE ribbon with distilled water. The stains may dissolve and assimilate evenly into the ribbon. ITS WORKED FOR ME!

Alfred Fox Oxford (UK). Black velour. Don't know who made it for Fox - a very nice hat, but slightly let down by a faux leather sweatband.
