New acquisition from ebay. Cream colored Shudde Bros. OR clone. Nice soft crown and stiff brim. However, I'm not so sure about the fake wind trolley. It has an un-reeded sweatband. Interesting hat. I may tinker with the crown and give it another crease.

Rick,

Neat hat! Is the wind trolley not attached? Also, in the last picture it looks like it has a reed or at least the channel where the reed should be. Great looking hat!

Looks reeded to me. Did they remove the filament?

I'll have to add this to the Hat Corp of America Block Number thread since I don't recall seeing Block 0335 on the list. 2 3/4" brim and 5 3/4" crown depth.

PS, I'm coveting that wide brimmed Rainbow! It's possibly had a ribbon replacement though?

I've been looking for a wide brimmed one while I have 2-3 shorter brimmed Rainbows. Please PM if interested in a swap for an appropriate hat. I've got some good candidates to choose from. Some are right up your alley.

Incidentally, is your handle from NROTPS, i.e. "Watcha gonna do on the planet today," etc.

Here is another rainbow I previously posted for comparison purposes. Different block number. This one has a 2 1/2" brim. Not sure which of the two is older or maybe they were made around the same time frame. The liner is different as well.

Nice Rainbow, Purplesage. The ribbon looks a lot like that of 1951-or-so models, but the bound edge and liner are not Rainbow standards, probably put on when it became a factory second, for whatever reason. Maybe it inadvertently got the ribbon and liner, and instead of redoing it they just sold it through the factory outlet.

Those sound like distinct possibilities Brad. I do like the bound edge though regardless of why it was put on. The block on the hat (0335) is also not on your list of HCA block numbers although there might be an example of another hat with that particular block somewhere here on the lounge. So for now I guess you could say it's a mystery!

The nice thing about it is it's probably one-of-a-kind.

Here's something odd. Compare your block number 0335 with the block number from my '53 Dobbs Rainbow:

Seems more than a coincidence, but I'm not sure what to make of it. Remember your Dobbs Westward on the last page of the HCA block numbers thread? It had the block number 006, the reverse of a regular 600 block number. Perhaps there is a special significance to the reversed block numbers. By any chance did your Westward have "Factory Store" stamped inside the sweatband?

Knox Superfine Foxhound

I got this Foxhound and the light green Rainbow from the same lady. Both hats have "Factory Store $6.00" stamped on the back of the sweat. Not sure where the factory store would have been located but it seems the $6.00 price is half the retail of $12.50, not a bad deal. The hat's in great shape just a slight discoloration or fading above the ribbon probably from the way it was stored. Not sure what the color is but it kind of has a light green hue and the ribbon is a pale blue. 2 3/4" brim and a 5 3/4" crown. Very similar to a grey Foxhound I posted a while back. The OPS tag would date it to the early 50s.
