This one isn't bad felt, especially compared to modern hats. It's lightweight, which is nice, and I really like the concentric rings and the tip design. It's quite clear they were intended as a sport hat - probably meant to be crushable...

I picked up this hat today.

It's a Biltmore 7X Gaucho Zorro Western hat with a 3 3/4" brim and a 4 3/4" crown. It was a bit dusty, and I brushed it pretty good, but couldn't get rid of the slight discolorations on the brim, see the pics. The crown part is fine, and black.

I believe it may have been pretty dusty and it's former owner wore it out in the rain, and the dirt got in deep in the felt.

I really like this hat, but am unsure what to do about this problem.

Any sugestions?

Thanks in advance.

Nice one Flick! It looks like the hat of the man of no name. I've been wanting a hat like that but it will have to wait.
Don't know if pouncing it will solve the problem.

This finally arrived today. It is 7 3/8, 3.2" brim, and a CAV EDGE. I bought it size unknown, and wasn't sure if it had a raw edge brim or Cav Edge, so I'm thrilled with all the surprises.

Thanks Brad, it's in the mail and I should have it soon, so I'll take some additional pics. I do have some larger photos, and looking at them more closely, it appears to be a raw-edge, which makes more sense given that it's a western dress style. Here are some details from the larger pics - for some reason they shrink down when I upload them here.

As an aside, Muncrief only played one year with the Yankees (1951) and appeared in 2 games, pitching 3 innings.

Updated with hat history, from '1951 When the Giants Played the Game': The Yanks would be preparing to defend their crown in Phoenix, Arizona, while Leo Durocher's Giants took over the St. Petersburg Florida site. The switch was prompted by Yankees co-owner Del Webb, who resided in Phoenix and had wanted to bring his team to the Southwestern city for some time....Webb had purchased $50 cowboy hats for each player to wear around Phoenix. New York baseball writer Dan Daniel wrote of Yogi Berra: "Hopalong Berra looks especially funny, as his hat happens to be too small for him." Berra also complained that it was difficult to find a good selection of comic books in Phoenix.

Here's the team sporting their Dobbs Fifty hats:

Brad, this is driving me crazy. I have posted the pics several times and checked back and they look great. Then I check again and they are gone !?!?!

I know it has to be me, as other people's attachments manage to stay up, but I have no idea what to do at this point - my attachments keep disappearing!

Scott

I'm trying to be patient...;)

Scott, I see you tried to put the actual attachment URL in the line. You need to click on the thumbnail and then right click the large image that comes up in its own window and copy the link from there.

Actually, after looking at your last attempt, the URL looks like it should be correct..... not sure what is going wrong.

Scott, post the thumbnail pic again and I'll try something.

I just got my new Akubra Fed IV. (grey) I haven't bashed this beauty yet, but since my boss made several comments about how "tall" my brown Akubra is, I'm thinking of wearing this one into the office un-bashed tomorrow morning.

I tried that but 'copy link' does not work. I can only copy the image address. It stays around in the post for a while, then disappears. There really should be an easier way unless the owners of the forum prefer small pictures.

Ok, I've done the process with the thumbnail from the previous post. If you click on that thumbnail, a window with the larger picture opens. Then right-click that pic window and do properties. Copy the whole string found at the Address (URL) and put it in the
tags and voila, large picture displays (as seen below).

The thumbnails URL is http://www.thefedoralounge.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=14538&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1401753427
and the larger picture's URL is http://www.thefedoralounge.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=14538&d=1401753427.

Hope this helps.

I've been waiting for this one for 1 1/2 months... arrived in the customs house in April, 20th but was only processed in May, 30th. Since the tracking number was not trackable I went there to search it (and they found it), chatted with customs house personnel trying to figure out why this delay because before it would take 1 to 4 days to process this kind of packages. They blame the mail service but I don't know... maybe both have guilt since the government made some cuts to reduce costs and there isn't enough people to process everything on time. Anyway they told me there isn't almost import of felt hats from USA (maybe I'm the only one lol) and panamas are the big hat volume import with arrivals almost every day.

Now the hat:
I did knew it was too big for me (7 5/8) and I wanted to see how many padding I needed to wear it (and it wasn't cheap to find that out). If the seller had looked a bit more in the hat, maybe she would have a bit more luck.
So this is what I got:
tommix01.jpg

The bow and ribbon are the same as my Stetson Big Country...
tommix02.jpg

...but it have a binding in the brim edge (what is the name of this biding?)...
tommix03.jpg

tommix04.jpg

... 80's liner and 4x beaver stamping...
tommix05.jpg

...yes too big (7 5/8 - 61)...
tommix07.jpg

...my head falls inside it!
tommix08.jpg

In the hope of a ticket to remain inside the sweatband I searched...
tommix06.jpg

Bingo! A Stetson Tom Mix with 5" brim :D

Hi Jaoa, I need a snowblower hat with a 5 inch brim & black hats look really great on me ~ and as luck would have it, my size is 7-5/8.

Are you interested in selling this hat to me?

It will have a good home in Canada!

No, not interested in selling it. It would cost you too much and I would recommend an Akubra Sombrero. At least I would use an Akubra to shovel snow.
