I picked up a Lee Corral about a month ago. It was sweat-stained and beaten up (plus it smelled like barbershop meets smoking lounge), so I sent it to Hatman Jack's in Wichita for a cleaning. Here's how the hat looked when I got it:

You can see that the hat was heavily sweat-stained; there was a dark spot on the pinch, and the ribbon had turned almost black. The hat had an almost-sticky feel to it, too. Here it is after cleaning:

Sweat stains and other gunk are gone, and the ribbon matches the brim binding now. Im positively thrilled with the results--the hat is just gorgeous. The guy underneath it could probably use a cleaning and a reblock, too.

One thing--it still smells vaguely of hair products. It's not nearly as bad as it once was, but it's still there. I think I'll seal it in a bag with some newspaper while I'm out of town next week.

Hey Aaron, the dimensions on that hat really work well for you, just so you know. They did a great job cleaning that beauty up, very nice. Congrats!

The ebay photos were deceiving as I thought that from the photos that the hat looked dirty ,but I rolled the dice and just bought it out right no auction.

I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived today.

Inside on the liner it read's "Spinetta Borsalino 1857 Alessandria The Hat Warehouse 5304 Newutrecht ave.
12218 Brooklyn N.Y. PH 718 854 6768

Can anyone here educate me on this hat ,that would be great .

The auction photos show a modern Borsalino sticker. The Hat Warehouse aka Ferster Hats sells religious hats in Brooklyn. Fedora Lounge member Besdor can probably provide more detail... or you could call the number.

That's the same ribbon??? Wow.

They didn't charge me for a new one, and the dimensions and knot work match the original perfectly. As well, the sweat is still in perfect condition. I think Hatman Jack's did a marvelous job getting the stains out with out scorching the ribbon and sweat with the cleaners. I'm impressed.

Thanks, Scooter! The lines of this hat drew me to it, despite the work that needed to be done. Also, I learned from The FL about finding the right hat for me, and I ink I've got the dimensions down. :)

Junque lot arrived--better parts.

The Norman Derby

The felt and sweat are in good shape, silk portions not so much.

Stetson soft felt.

I wonder what the sweatband looked like. Its a light soft felt with a small pencil curl, not a Derby.

Borsalino?

No original paper tags and likely early replacement sweatband, and obviously no ribbon remains. Nice plump well shaped felted welt edge and great shape-holding felt is Borsalino quality level. Quite a bit of dirt but in good shape.

G.A. Dunn hat in my dress up bin

I found a G. A. Dunn hat today in my sons' dress up bin. I'm not sure how it got there (I tend to end up with other's old stuff) thankfully I saved it before they got to it! The hat is a beautiful black. The sweatband says "English Velour" and both the sweatband and the lining say G. A. Dunn & Co with the G&A the same size as the D. There is also a really cool pink union stamp inside the band. Can anyone tell me if this is something to save and love or to let my boys dress up as men? Thanks!
