Here's a 70s conservative suit I have. Not sure if it emulates 30s or 40s. The first pics have it done with the older stuff in the later with the 70s style. Also have a very cool Northfolk beltback that I wish fit me.

Jamesmac, the suit is nice, and your accessories definitely give the whole outfit a mid 20th century look.
I wouldn't say that the suit specifically imitates the 30s or 40s, but like you say it is relatively conservative- the 1970s style of shoulders have more in common with the late 20s-mid 30s, 'roped' (the way the sleevehead has some height near the seam) and quite narrow with the wearer's shoulder pocking in the sleevehead a bit.
generally speaking, from the mid 30s to the 50s shoulder construction is more padded and wide, especially in the late 40s to early 50s.

Nice jacket Dinerman, has an RL look to it.

Thanks. The 3 piece suit has more shoulder padding the all my other suits. The Norfolk belt back is about 3 sizes too small so that's why it looks tight in the shoulders I can barely button that one but I got it very cheap so couldn't pass it up

Thanks. The 3 piece suit has more shoulder padding then all my other suits. I would say it's about a 44R for the jacket I'm usually a 42 so it's good in the shoulders just a bit big in the torso .The Norfolk belt back is about 3 sizes too small so that's why it looks tight in the shoulders I can barely button that one but I got it very cheap so couldn't pass it up

It's a real nuisance when you find something you really like and the size is against you. You just know that somewhere else there's another fellow with a similar coat that is too big.

I know I feel like that all the time . One thing I forgot to mention is the trousers for that suit are high waisted single pleated and cuffed.
