I have seen some great pork pies. Feraud wears a beauty on the Paddy World Tour NYC shots. Art has some corkers on his site as do other suppliers. You see some on OFAS.

How do you really know what Pork Pie will suit you? Do you have to have a certain face? I wear a Fedora well but a PorK Pie with the short brim????[huh] [huh]

Skinny a la Cranky Franky... or can a substantial round face fit the bill? Any advice Loungers?

The best advise is to find a store and try some on to see how they fit your face etc. If that isn't possible, maybe you can take one of your beaters and rebash it into a portpie to get a feel for the look. You might take a chance on ofas and see if you can pick one up real cheap so you don't have much to lose if you don't like the look. Porkpies are cool looking hats but not for everybody. I have evolved into liking the higher crown hats so I could never go with a Porkpie but I have seen some on guys that look great. You might find that the brim is not as big a problem as you think. Stingy brims can be good looking hats, particularly if you have a fairly thin face. Just some thoughts.:)

I agree with duggap. I love a Pork Pie, but wasn't sure how it would look on me....just like you're saying, so I did the exact same thing. After getting a Knox off of OFAS that I wasn't happy with the size of the crown height (5 1/4"), I felt it sat way too high on my head & couldn't get used to it. I thought why not try my hand at bashing a Pork Pie. I was pleasantly surprised. You might be as well, you never know until you try my friend. You can always steam it back to another type of bash if you don't like it, right?

Here's mine......

What used to be a 5 1/4" crown is now a 3 1/8" :D

cool!

Very cool... I didn't know you could crease a fedora to make a porkpie. Does the crease hold up when you wear the hat, or does it tend to puff up in the center?

As long as the hat fits you properly and the crown isn't too low, it'll sit just as is. ;)

Need some help I am dying here :) I need a Pork Pie flat brim

Ok, maybe not dying, but I really cannot wait to get my hat. This is so cool that there is a site like this about hats, and that other guys understand the importance of hats lol. I have been waiting years to find the type of hat I am looking for and last year I saw it, now I just found out yesterday it is a porkpie, but I want the straight brim not the one with a upper curve. So, if you all could help me find out where I could pick one up at I would be very grateful. :) I have found one that I totally am loving , but it is more of an event hat than a regular everyday wear around. Like I said, flat brim is what I am really wanting. The guy who has a hat like the one I want is in a video on You Tube, check out Saints of Los Angeles by Motley Crue or you can check out my Flikr page, and it is the top two pics http://www.flickr.com/photos/dmc68/

Thanks everyone, this is so cool

P.S. hope it is ok to hang out here even though I am not sophisticated like you all, I am more interested in my hat matching my tattoos lol.

Here is a link to my event hat, I gotta have this one because I am an artist and I have my first ever solo exhibition coming up, and this hat is totally me.

Well, that's an.....interesting hat.

The "curve" you refer to is the flange of the brim. Different flanges create different amounts of swoop to the brim, as well as different looks when snapped down. At this point I should note I am discussing fur felt hats.

Most hats have some degree of flange on them.

Here's a model from a reputable brand, offered by a reputable seller: http://www.delmonicohatter.com/product/BDF0229.htm

I'd try for a brand name one too in felt. A well known hat worn by so many 1950's jazz musos. It's the bee bop pork pie.

Jlee is right (of course!). The colorful hat you have pictured may be perfectly suitable for a whimsical event or show, but the look Jared picked definitely imparts slightly more of a feeling of serious conviction, IMO.

I love pork pies and sort of wish they were more popular. I have the brim up on mine in the classic Gene Hackman/jazz musician style. In NYC they are readily available at hat dealers at several different price points. And vintage pork pies are not hard to come by either.

Here's a vintage Pilgrim out behind the Borgata casino in Atlantic City!

Never thought I'd get into sporting' Porkpie's either. However, after having three of my last Western's converted (one shown below), they look kinda cool! And they go with any wardrobe choice. Here are some pics from a western conversion created from Gomez Hat Company. I sing his praises for many reasons but the two main reasons, he's great guy and he's great at at his craft. Still love my high crowned fedoras, mind you. But a sweet diversion every now and then doesn't hurt. However, if you want one created from scratch, I highly recommend... http://www.gomezhatcompany.com/western-hat-conversion-gallery.html

Figured I'd post this in this thread since I was posting pics of it elsewhere.

Inexpensive Stacy Adams porkpie I picked up for Halloween and have since put into the rotation.
