Pomade

Starting to worry that Tres Flores Brilliantine won't be around much longer, period. Anybody know of anything comparable? I'm set for awhile, as I bought a case, but may be forced to change brands in the future.

Well, I got my Dapperman in the mail today, came in less than a week from the other side of the country. This was the first time I used a Pomade and I believe I used a little too much and tried putting it in with dry hair, lesson learned. Otherwise it got the true test today. I put it in right before my workout and my hair stayed in place through 90 degree weather and an hours worth of sweat. The sweat did make the pomade workable again which wasn't an issue for me. I then went on a fire call with it right after my workout and after removing my fire helmet after wearing it for ten minutes my hair was impressively still in place. I finally got home after about two hours worth of sweat and my hair/pomade was dry, so I ran a comb through it, a white residue came through the comb and came out on my hair. Once I saw that, I ran my comb under the sink and put the wet comb through my hair and the residue went away and my hair looked clean again. I then took a shower, the Dapperman came out with ease leaving nothing behind, it even made my hair seem softer after rinsing it out. The only negatives I found was that when I sweat, some of the pomade is in the sweat just like with gel or any other product you put in your hair or on your face. Also the residue that collects when combing dry. Other than that, which I'm sure occurs with every pomade, this is a great product in my eyes.

Yes! I have a ton. Mostly Lucky Tiger Butch wax items, but I have others. I met the current owner of Lucky Tiger a few years ago and I have stuff in my collection that he never knew existed.

Nice! I think i came across a picture of your collection when googling vintage pomades one time. I found some Cru Butch on Ebay not long ago, it was posted on my blog.

I've got an old jar of Dixie Peach myself, as well as some Slick Boy. Slick Boy isn't that old but its extremely rare. One of my most recent blog posts was an almost full tin of Slick Black I found, but the starting bid was very high ($99).

Just picked up some Iron Society pomade, can't wait to try it out. Anyone else have experience with this brand? This definitely wins Label of the Year Award in my opinion.

Sweet Georgia Brown seems to have about tripled in price. It ain't THAT good. They've also changed the formula to accommodate whiners who thought it caused stains. Re-reading this thread for alternatives.

I always use a mix. Small bit of Murray's with a good amount of Suave Groom 'n' Clean goes a long way.
On top of that, my new haircut (Thanks sister) makes it much easier to style.

And if I need any shine, a small dab of Brylcreem does just the thing.

I noticed the price hike too. I've heard the manufacturer discontinued the heavier Sweet Georgia Brown in the blue tin as well as the lighter, water-based one in the purple tin.

I love this product. Especially the Firm Hold, but the original is very good as well. Kind of a bay rum scent and easier than some of the other heavy holding pomades to work with. One of my favorites.

I have only tried one other besides Iron Society, but I had a fire helmet on at a fire for three hours last week and only had a few stray hairs afterwards. That alone made me a life customer.

It's a GREAT label, for one thing. The jar is smaller than expected. Cost $15 plus shipping from NY. Took about four days to arrive.
This is the regular hold. It's very stiff and waxy and takes a good bit of time to melt with a hair dryer.
Smells great. Very masculine and as noted above a sort of Bay Rum scent. Great hold, and combs through nicely. Might take two washings to get it out.
So far, two thumbs up!

Just bought three different tins of Rumble59 Schmiere. I've worn the medium hold limited edition (sailor duck) the last two days. It has a nice ocean breeze smell to it.
