Hi Everyone!
Well, the holiday season is quickly approaching. This is not only a time for gift giving, but also a time for family and friends. A time to be grateful for all that we have. A time to be thankful.
I have been involved with a group called Any Soldier, www.anysoldier.com for about two years now. In total I have sent about 8 packages to troops in several different locations, all with different needs.
This is a web site that gets care packages to our troops. The first step is to go to their web site and pick a soldier, or group of soldiers signed up for this service. There are thousands signed up, all have different needs depending on their location. These needs are listed out, they range from snacks and treats, magazines, playing cards/games, books, toiletries, pens, paper, the list is very long.
After I have picked a specific group to send a package to, I go to Target or WalMart, or some other large supply store and I stock up with supplies. I send the package, with a personalized message of thanks to the troops. I also enclose a self addressed stamped envelope in case the troops I send the package to decide they want to get in touch with me. I have gotten a few, incredibly grateful letters of thanks back. But that doesn't matter, it just feels really good to show my support, and I know that even though it might be small, I'm bringing a bit of comfort to our courageous soldiers.
Also, when choosing a specific group to send a package to, you can send a package designated to a female or a male. Obviously, their needs are different. Each time I have sent out packages, I have sent one to a male group and one to a female.
So, in this holiday season, when we sit down with our families for a gigantic feast. Or when we gather in the living room to open Hanukkah/Christmas presents, please, remember our incredibly courageous soldiers who are on the front lines putting their lives in jeopardy so we can be safe and free. I know that we all have our own feelings on the war, but we all should be thankful to our troops. They work hard every day. They risk their lives. A care package filled with the things that they really truly need and want might put a smile on their faces. I might make them feel a little more at home. Especially during a time when we are all celebrating with family, it might give them a few minutes of peace and a feeling of the holiday spirit.
I hope you all will do this kind deed. They also have ready made care packages that can be sent out immediately. This is much easier than going to the store and post office, but it won't be as personalized. Either way you choose, you are doing a thoughtful deed. Another idea, if it is too expensive to do on your own, is to do a group package. If anyone is interested in joining in with me to send a personalized package, just send me a PM and let me know the amount you are willing to donate.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season. Please support our troops
