another question-- in the rare scenario that i do find one, what would be an acceptable price to pay for a tie of this sort ? one that is in decent-good condition ?

sorry if i'm being a pest... i dont seem to have gotten any bites on my original inquiry. i'm sort of in the dark about men's wear in general !

Hidden Girlie Tie

I found a tie like that just this past summer in a thrift store in Bermuda. Hidden under the back folds is a bikini-clad Ursula Andress (from Dr. No.) Made by the rather staid and now defunct house of Trimmingham's, the front has a tiny repeating pattern of beer mugs, cards, and doghouses. Ah, the English and their dry humor...

Funny thing is - I showed the tie to one of my father's colleagues and he showed me a similar tie. His has pink elephants on the front. His line:

"What do you see on this tie, hmmm?"

"Well... pink elephants, I suppose!"

"Pink Elephants?! Next thing, you'll be telling me that you see a naked lady!"
(he said with a rather practiced turn of the wrist)

lol

I've been thinking the same thing. I'd love to buy and sell them in my store. Maybe one of our Fedora Lounge Pinup model or artist could come up with their own line.

This is an idea I've been kicking around. I would have to charge a fairly hefty price for an original for the time involved. Unless I could have a design mass produced.
Hmm,...I'll be looking into this a bit further.

There's an ebay seller who seems to have gotten his hands on some vintage peekaboo fabric and has been creating ties from it. Or maybe it's entirely repro. Anyhow, I bought one for my boyfriend for less than $20.

Maj. Nick,
Keep me abreast if you decide to do anything. Also, if you need any neckwear maker contacts, let me know.

Do you remember the name of the seller? I'd be interested to see what they look like.

Interesting novelty.

my dad had a bunch of originals (he and his friends were feeling rebellious and picked them up at a junk sale in the late 1950s/early 1960s) that he tossed in the trash in the 70s because he didn't think they'd ever be any use to anyone . . .:eusa_doh:

I feel your pain. My aunt threw away tons of vintage clothing owned by my grand parents. My grandfather's suits, hats,...ties. :(
