But of course.

Below is a mid-1930s photo of a Hollywood actor (of British origin). Unfortunately, I don't know his name. Note the pinstripe suit jacket paired with solid, unpatterned trousers. Surprised? Don't be. I saw Wild Root wearing this very same combination last Sunday night. Root knows ...

Three 'orphan' jackets, and three pairs of complementing trousers

Here's a pic taken of me by a photographer for band promotions at a train station in North Sydney. The jacket is a dark blue pinstripe DB teamed with light grey trousers. I've also got a medium-brown DB with a white pinstripe that I team with darker brown trousers.

I think the combinations work well.

Thank you, Marc

I haven;t got a digital camera or a scanner, so I can only post pics someone else has posted on the 'net or sent to my computer. I promised Wild Root that one day I will borrow my sister's camera and take photos of my loafer jackets. I will get there!

Yes, I wore a getup like that on Sunday... and no Matt, it isn't something you do when you have no suit pants to wear with it any longer! It was a popular sport outfit for yachting, going to out in the day in the months of spring or summer. If I were to wear a brown striped coat, I'd steer clear of darker trousers... I'd wear an ivory or light cream pair! That's what is proper.

Stripes with solids were popular in the 30's! Stripes were very popular in the 30's... I like that look very much!

Summer's gonesville here (thankfully - it was way too hot!)

I dig where you're coming from, Root. In my case, I wear the separates more like a sportscoat/slacks combo, only the jacket happens to be DB. In that context, the contrast betwen the lighter brown top and dark bottom looks very sharp. In summer, I'd think the lighter trousers would definitely be more appropriate, very 'sporty', for want of a better word!
