Hi girls~ just wanted to pass along some info that some of you might be interested in.
Our salon is participating in Pink Hair for Hope. The folks that we get our hair extensions from have teamed up with the breast cancer foundation.

For $10 you can get one strand of pink hair and all proceeds go to the foundation. You can get as many as you like at $10 each. I'm really surprised how many ladies we have had come in for these, and how many have survived cancer as well.

I have to do my roots this week and then I'll get my extensions next week to show you. Plus, they were out of the shade of pink I wanted so had to wait anyway. Since my hair is red I didn't want the pale pink.

BTW, these stay in untill they're taken out, tho they will grow away from the scalp with your own hair. And they are human hair. You can get straight, wavy, or spiral.

Anyhoo, here's the link! Hopefully there's a salon near you!

Think Pink

The site doesn't say they have a listing of participating salons, and indeed they don't. I am very interested in this and will call my salon first and if they aren't participating I'll get out the phone book and start calling around to see who is. :) Thanks for posting this, Nikki!

Hi ladies~ here's a link that has a phone number to call for a salon, hope this helps! It's at the bottom,
http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/about-nbcf/news-releases-celebrate-pink-hair

And there's nothing to be afraid of with this type of extension. It's roughly a1/4 inch section of hair bonded to about the same amount of your hair. When you want them out, just go back to the salon and they have a special solution to disolve the bond.

I sure hope this is a nation wide thing, I'll be quite embarassed otherwise! I don't see why it wouldn't be.... if not you girls could light the fire under their rears to get them in!

There weren't any salons in my area but I contacted a couple and asked them to participate. One of them agreed! They ordered the hair today, it should be in by Monday and I'm getting my extension on Tuesday!

My mom is a 30 year breast cancer survivor, I'm happy to do anything to help the cause so I've been promoting this program to everybody I know. Thanks Nikki for telling us about it, I wouldn't have known otherwise.

Wow Jonni, a 30 year surviver! I can't believe how many women have come in the shop who are survivers, or are in stage 3.
We have raised about $1,600 so far in just a few weeks by word of mouth. So at $10 a pop I think that's pretty good.

There was an artical in the paper last week tho, and more people are coming in now.

Any salon that does that brand (So.Cap) of hair extensions, (same as the stars), should be able to participate. I asked and it IS nation wide it's just that salons just don't seem to know about it. Plus, the stylists who put them in have to do it bascially in their own time, they are not getting paid what so ever. So if they have a full book of their regular clientel, they have to stay late or squeeze the Pink hair folks in. Some salons or stylist might not have the extra time unfortunately.

They're still out of the color I want so hopefully next week I'll have mine!
They have a new one that is blond at the roots and then blends into fusia. Really cool but you have to have long hair to wear it or the pink gets cut off.

Also, be sure that when your stylist trims the extension to the length of your natural hair, that they use a razor or texturize it somewhat so it doesn't look like a piece of fake Barbie hair hanging there! ;)

I found the newspaper article online! This is our salon. My station is actually right next to Dawn's and I was afraid my bum was going to be in the pic, lol! I wore the purple dress that day and the fake bangs.

They're turning pink
St. Peters salon taking part in national cancer fundraiser

If a bald woman stands next to a pink-haired woman, which one is fighting cancer? Perhaps both.

Customers are walking out of the Sun Porch Salon and Spa sporting baby-pink hair extensions. The salon is one of a handful in the St. Louis area participating in Pink Hair for Hope, a national breast cancer fundraiser organized by the SO.CAP USA hair extension company.

The extensions cost $10 per graft. The entire fee will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, according to the company's publicity.
Dawn Gohn, Sun Porch Salon's hair extension artist, said the salon raised $600 within five days of starting the promotion on Sept. 11. They will continue offering the extensions through October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The salon is located at

The fundraiser is the salon's latest attempt to support one of its employees, Jerri Wagner, 61. The St. Peters woman has been a beautician for 40 years and a breast cancer survivor for five.

In 2002, six months of chemotherapy made Wagner bald.

"When I didn't have hair, people would walk up to me, give me hug and tell me their stories," she said. "It feels like a family, people who know what it is like going through chemotherapy."

Wagner's hair returned, but so did cancer. This time it was pancreatic cancer, diagnosed in January. Now Wagner's hair is short again.

Gohn, 37, said the salon staff found out about Wagner's new diagnosis in the spring. They organized several fundraisers, including a May 19 dance and auction that collected $12,000. They have also sold candy bars and pink beaded bracelets.

Gohn said SO.CAP approached her about offering the pink extensions. She is donating her time to apply and remove the extensions, which are made from human hair. A keratin tip fuses the extension to the customer's hair. Keratin is the main component in natural hair. The application process takes two minutes, Gohn said.

Wagner said she has been so busy and tired lately that she did not realize the salon was offering the pink extensions until she started seeing them on customers.

"These girls have been so kind and generous. I can't tell you how it made me feel," Wagner said.

The salon staff has been her main support group through both cancer battles, Wagner said.

"If you don't have support when you go through cancer, you can't make it," she said.

I booked a haircut along with my extension because I wanted to thank the salon and stylist for participating in the program......now let's hope I actually like the haircut since I've never been to this salon before.
