You both look fantastic!! I'm on a mission to lose baby weight (ok, she's almost 4, so thats not really the excuse now) so I can wear more vintage. Its frustrating to have it around & not fit into it! I'll never be tall enough to pull off a 30s look (LOVE that black satin gown w/ V back!), but I'd love to wear some of the suits I come across, or 40s to 50s dresses. Lady Day, love the detail on the sweater! I'm glad I popped in on this thread, its motivational! Need to learn to sew, too.......oy. Ang

Thank you all, Ladies.

Dorothea, I too am in the loosing process. Ive lost inches from the hips and waist thus far, and here I go making tailored items that would be a real bi#ch to alter lol

Shows my impatience. But thats alright, I can sell em (if I choose to) to a Lady who is this size, and make even better stuff! :)

Lauren, you have a gorgeous vintage collection.

Lady Day, your vintage inspired dog-walking outfit has inspired me! :D I've been wanting something a bit more vintage and stylish to go walking in (I like to do a lot of afternoon walking when I have the time). I love your houndstooth suit, too.

Oo, Lauren, those dresses are lovely!! I especially love the one with the metal beading. How do you clean it? You must have a trusted dry cleaner.

This is my vintage wedding dress, circa 40s-50s. Weighs 13 lbs!! Heavily beaded with pearls, glass beads, and rhinestones, and beaded silk flowers. I bought it on eBay, then had to drive it 4 hours away to the nearest vintage specialist dry cleaners, then had to put another $100 into it for tailoring. The original owner had a B cup and D cup, and I'm an A cup!! Plus she was taller than me, and had an itty bitty rib cage. After it's all said and done, I spent about $500. It's a shame it's boxed up in my closet now-wish I had the room to display it! This dress makes me swoon-I love it so much!

Pardon the terrible picture of a beautiful dress:

This is fun! Here's another of mine, but it's a heartbreaker. Mid 30s satin FOGA halter dress, another eBay purchase. Poorly stored for years. Lots of water spots, and the satin has turned. This is another one that needs to go on the 4 hour journey to the vintage dry cleaners. It is really so very, very very divine.

FOGA is the Fashion Originators Guild of America-a group of retailers and manufacturers started in 1932 to protect the designs from design theft. (They went defunct in 41 or 42 because the FTC deemed the group was violating the Sherman anti-trust act.)

They had black list of retailers that weren't co-operative. I think there's a little more info on them on the vintage fashion guild website.

Everytime I look at this dress, I wonder if it was made by some important designer. :)

Lovely things, Grace! I love your wedding gown! I have a suit with a Fashion Originators Guild of America logo in it, too. It's one of my favorites :)

In my 4 or so years of dealing in vintage, this is the only FOGA peice I've ever come across. I'm so curious as to who made it! As of yet, there's no way of using the serial number to track down the designer. :( This one came from eBay, from a guy who doesn't sell vintage. The condition was much worse than he described-I could've made a big stink about it, but I was so taken with the beauty! for weeks I had a picture of this dress on my phone. I'm that smitten. :)

I'd love to see your suit!

I think I posted it over in amateur photos, but not sure :) It was taken by Matt Deckard, and I also found it on Ebay last year. It's one of my favorite suits I have, and the thing that was cool is when I got it the sleeves were really short. I let them down and found inside the bound buttonholes from before! It was such a lovely surprise! It also has two bound buttonholes on either side of the jacket for a tibi (or something like that) instead of a standard button closing. I'll have to try to take better pics of the detailing.
