I Like your idea scott. Let me know what you need.

Thanks Douglas,

I collected photos that you posted - Once I start building the site I will let you (and others) know which photos I plan to use, and if you have better ones (or additional), just let me know.

I've only built web-pages using the p.c. and I'm now a Mac user - turns out my host (Homestead) doesn't support the Mac. I'm looking at alternatives, so it might be a week or two before I get the initial effort created.

Images needed

I've created a table summarizing the pictures that have been sent to me (and that I've found). I also have some pre-1940 'miscellaneous' images, and have decided to leave those outside the scope of the project for now.

NEED IMAGES of the following hats (with side view of hat, liner logo, sweatband logo, PRICE TAG, etc) if no 'X' next to category. If you have images (that belong to you!) that you don't mind me posting on a pre-1940 Stetson web-page, please indicate that as well. (The green 'X' just means that I own an example, the dates just indicated documented proof).

Regarding the 7X,5X,4X,3X designations - we have loads of examples, but all except one are post-1940. They were definitely around prior to 1940.

Thanks,
Scott

**IMPORTANT: You do NOT get a scarlet letter for posting on this thread - this is just the internet!

However, I promise that any pics (or other help) provided for use on the web-page (by posting, PM or email) will not be id'd by author UNLESS you would like them to be, and I will NOT post any photos without permission.

Personally, I think it's a great idea. Having all the information on one site organizes everything much nicer than on a thread page. It's all so much neater, and easier to navigate. I wholeheartedly support the notion to allow your fellow Stetson-buffs to make edits and alterations as needed. It should be left as strictly research-orientated; after all, we have TFL for discussions and chat. It would be nice to have the info presented within the confines of a user friendly lexicon. Not watered down, but also accessible to the masses (or presented with a small glossary). I also think a small section devoted to dating our own Stetsons would not be out of line. I'm excited for the outcome, and am looking forward to seeing the finished product. That's just my two cents on it--don't feel obligated to have to listen to a word of it. In the end, it's all down to what you want.

Good luck,
flute

Thanks - your input (and everyone's) is greatly appreciated!

It will start off as simply images showing the hat (and ribbon/bow), liner or tip label, and sweatband (logo/size tag/other tags).

But I do like the 'glossary' idea - perhaps for each designation (e.g.: 'Select Quality'), you can click on the term and get a description of the basic known facts related to it. Then as viewers notice missing info, they can let me know and I'll add it if there is supporting documentation.

I'm big on supporting documentation, so I would also love to get examples of catalog and brochure pages that list quality designations, prices, years, etc.

HELP!

I have an old western Stetson, No.1 Quality, and the ends of the sweatband are not sewn together. Any ideas why?

That's the way they produced them. On older hats, a lot of manufacturers produced the sweatbands with taped rear seams instead of sewn.

If you posted a couple pictures of the hat, I, or someone else here could probably nail down a date on yours.
