Loungers,

This Sunday, MrNewportCustom is going to take a photo or two of Magneto and me. For those of you that didn't see this:

http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=24804&page=3

So now I'm presented with a quandary. I'm a new kid around here and as such I am looking for Los Angeles Loungers to put their collective noggins together and help me figure out where we are going to have our photo taken. Some ideas that have already made the table are:

1. Gamble House in Pasadena
2. Biltmore Hotel in Downtown LA
3. Suicide Bridge (San Rafael Bridge) Pasadena...but I think that this one has been done to death. Definitely pun intended. ;)
4. Pasadena City Hall in all it's wonderful Deco goodness.
5. QM...but I think we have enough of those blinkin' pics.

We are shooting our pics at 1pm on Sunday. Any ideas (especially from Neecerie and Lady Day) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Cheers,

FG.

I've never been up there, is it nice?FG.

Griffith Park Obsetvatory, Rob works there now!
Stunning Design, the exteriors were used as the Kryptonian home of Jor-el Superman's father in the black & White TV series. There is a fountain off I think Los Feliz near the way up to the GPO that makes a great backround. Train town in Griffith park has steam locomotives for backround.

Don't forget the LA train staion it has a classic interior.

The Egyptian in HW?

SHUFFLED off to...
Like John said, Union Station. The Formosa Cafe. The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The Pantry, downtown. The Mulhollond overlook - the Hollywood bowl is below and the Hollywood sign in the background. The Bradbury building (as seen in Blade Runner). Just to name a few...

Good idea asking for . . . um . . . ideas, FG. I like the thought of Griffith Observatory! I haven't been there in years! ;) (Ultimately, though, it's your choice.) But, folks, please remember that, as much as I'd love to shoot inside the Bradbury Building, my offer is for outdoor shots only. I've haven't the strobe equipment to shoot indoors.

Thank you and keep the ideas coming! :)

Hmmmm . . .

There are possibilities here. The windows of Union Station are quite large and the majority of them are south-facing, so that could make it work, at least in B&W. My main concern for indoor shooting would be with color film, as any artificial light source could tint the pictures, or parts thereof, away from pure daylight, if strong enough. But I think the altitude of the lamps inside and the brightness of the sunlight through the windows could make it possible.

FG. Have you a third person to hold a reflector?

Noirish rains this morning.
Suggest:
(If open)
On the south side of Hollywood Blvd., just west of Western Ave., there is an (arched? been a few months) entrance to the lobby of an old office bldg. Inside, it has that "smell", that unearthly, not unpleasant, aura of age - wood, oil, polish, marble? Not a photographable quality, yes, but the visual inside was just as vintage L.A. to me. Not bad natural light inside - skylights, windows. Yes, that is a DMV office on the corner just east. Check out the gargoyles at the roofline, though. Bukowski used to live around the corner where a condo now stands.
Portions of the Geffen or whatever it's called now building on the west side of Vine St. north of Fountain Ave. are still art deco-moderne.
Aline Barnsdall house (FLLW) atop Barnsdall hill park, Hollywood Blvd east of Vermont Ave. Also there Junior Art Center building is "Modernist".
The Pony Rides in Griffith Park - almost the same for 50 years. Travel Town train yard further west.
Who else voted for Rondo besides himself? Two is better than one! - Thanks!

THe Casino on Catalina Island is a nice backdrop too.

In Pasadena and SOuth Pasadena there are a fair number of California Craftsman Bungalows that the historical society lists, you might try that.

Wrigley Mansion on Orange Grove maybe.

Where the heck is that Coca Cola Building that was built with the design of being an Art Deco Steamship.

I applied there once! It's in downtown Los Angeles, at 1334 S. Central Ave.

While looking for a picture of it, I found this site. Scroll down half way to see it. Click on the thumbnail to see a larger image. (The Donut Hole - three pictures above it - is about a mile from my house. :D) Lots of good location ideas here! :)
