Hope this tool will open a hole new world of cheap and plentiful 6.7/8s (I'm a small 7 LO)
I would have preferred to do the restoration myself though ($$$), but is probably a good investment anyway?!

Yes, I think so. With care, you should be able to stretch most 6 7/8 hats at least one size without damaging the sweat. Good luck, and easy as you go!

I was recently on vacation in New Zealand. I was in an antique shop looking for hats as usual and came across this item. It looks to be Victorian era and I think the ball on the end is ivory. It was $20 NZ so only $13 US . Has anybody seen one of these before? Is it really a hatters tool? Or was the guy at the shop mistaken? I have lots of hats but am new to the tools of the trade.Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Found another hat stretcher.This is the only one I have that has no size marked on it.

Poking around late at night on OFAS awhile back and came across this with a $10 opening bid and a $30 BIN. I bought it then. Cleaned up well and is in good working order. I removed the electrical components. It had no plug or cord, anyway I would never use them.

RJR, you have one that is more of what I was looking for, but at that price I couldn't pass it up. It's built like a tank and the shipping was almost equal to what I paid for it.

Man, RJR I really like the wood ones. It's what I really wanted but most I've found were just out of my range or I got to the party late.

I'm embarrassed because I've never restored mine or even cleaned it up much, but here it is. Instead of the old switch I wonder if it didn't have a rheostat originally? The casting was made for either a rheostat or a switch to be mounted there. It has a bad cord I've never replaced but I don't want to use the heater anyway.
