Very unusual design, 1920s motoring / sports leather jacket.

Very cool. I like the minimalist look with this. In goat it would make a nice Summer jacket (though I might have to add a pocket, perhaps inside, or a single poatch pocket like on a B2 - just for practicality).

Deerskin Thedi. Beautiful Color.

This is a style I like a lot. If I was to holiday in that part of the World, it would be tempting to see if I could buy one of these off the rack. I don't own any Thedis, never have, but this is a style my usual go-to brands don't do. I think it would be a nice, temperate weather travel jacket.

I like the subtlety of the red trim there - not over done, just enough to have that little flash of difference. Very Germanic, in my experience.

I agree. The sleeve gussets also were red. It looks good, but that is where I would stop with the dashes of red trim.

My motorcycle is white gold and blacked out. To add a bit of color I installed a red gas cap. I tried some other details in red but the gas cap alone was enough and did not look too contrived.

Hehe so true,

A year ago I was at stage 1. Now I'm at 5.

I think there's one more step/hurdle between 6 and 7: "I need to convince my gf that it's perfectly normal to wear a jacket like this"

What stage are you at?

Yeah, Stage 5 sounds right. My wife has by now bought into the "it´s a hobby-story, meaning that the standard rules of "Approppriate Dress" don´t apply.
Before a purchase I need to see myself in a situation where I absolutely need the new stuff. Still hard for me to do with certain styles...

I've done that with a few jackets that I've actually owned... I even went through that with my Mulholland :D

@willyto Freewheelers has made a G1 so it likely is a Freewheelers.

I don't undestand why people keep on buying RMC, TFH, FW and Himel jackets for more than double the price you pay for a FL...of course he "only" offers a couple of models but he's open for new styles like in my case (heart-shaped D-pocket) and he also agreed to make a Mulholland clone for me in navy blue with contrast stitching
The leather is one big reason, the liners and materials is another, but by far the biggest is the pattern.

I am saying this as someone who is literally having Greg copy an old Bootleggers (Freewheelers) jacket for me right now. Freewheelers patterns are unlike any others I have ever experienced and I have owned and tried on a LOT of jackets. The owner, Atsushi Yasui does all the patterns and apparently did a lot of the older RMC patterns. He's just a master at it.

Greg does amazing work and I am proving my confidence in him by giving him my business, but I do not expect the pattern to be at the level of a Freewheelers jacket at all... and I don't just mean the general measurements of fit. Also, Greg only just got a skiving machine so that would have been another reason to go with FW... plus Greg is only new to using the machine.

I am having Greg do the jacket because I have absolutely no way to get a FW one. Even if this extremely rare jacket did ever come up for sale, it was only made in two tone leather and wearing black and brown leather together is absolutely abhorrent to me. I would never wear it.

If Freewheelers were still making this jacket in a solid color, then I would save up more money and buy from them. I'd probably still give Greg my business, but have him make something else.

Even if you got him to make what would almost be an exact copy, it likely wouldn't actually look exactly the same. Plus, just because something looks the same doesn't mean it is the same. There is a lot more to Freewheelers than just incredible construction quality and beautiful stitch work. Trust me, I've owned 7 of them now.

Ok, just to understand, but what are you referring to with the word "pattern" here? I see it being used in many different ways, and that can give a lot of misunderstandings.

To me, the pattern is how well thought out the structure of the jacket is. In other words, how well adapted it is to the human body and the way it moves.
It is also, how well it fits different body types for non bespoke jackets. Bespoke jackets should be best on the original person placing the order after all.

Are you saying that Freewheelers are great in this sense?

I know you put FW on pedestal, but come on man, that guy is currently doing your custom jacket not even finished and already openly expected to be a second rate plan B, a spare tire, he would be super sad if reading this.

That is exactly what I am referring to. One example of this is how my Freewheelers Caboose technically has a smaller chest and basically the same shoulder measurement as my new RMC and yet even without a bi swing back, the Freewheelers is more comfortable to move around in and gives me more freedom of movement.

Another example is when I posted pictures of my size 42 Caboose jackets after they were FAR too big for me, people were still telling me that they looked great.

I know you put FW on pedestal, but come on man, that guy is currently doing your custom jacket not even finished and already openly expected to be a second rate plan B, a spare tire, he would be super sad if reading this.

I didn't say second rate nor did I say plan B. I literally said that I would probably still buy a jacket from Greg even if I wasn't having him make this jacket, so no, Greg was not a plan B. There was never a plan A for this jacket. As I mentioned in another thread, I sent Greg pictures of vintage and other brands' versions of this jacket. We just both agreed that the Freewheelers version was the best version to go off of.

I'm very excited for this jacket and while I personally expect the pattern to not be at FW level, I also think it has a very high chance of becoming my favorite jacket. I didn't say Greg is just "worse" than Freewheelers. I think I've talked to him enough for him to not be upset by reading what I'm writing here. Honestly feels like you're putting words in my mouth a bit. I expect the jacket to be top notch overall, not second rate. I literally only said that I didn't expect the pattern to be as good. Why would I expect anything different? It's not his original design, he's going off of pictures of a jacket rather than the real jacket itself, and he does a lot more than just make patterns. He also makes all the jackets himself and I don't think he actually was a pattern designer at Aero, so he's likely much newer to that. I think it would be a little silly of me to expect him to perfectly nail the pattern and would be unfair to expect him to do that.

I did also say that maybe he won't be as great at skiving yet because he only just got the machine and Aero doesn't skive their leather. Again, how is this an insult? I didn't say he would do a poor job and I am not insulting his skill. I'm saying that as far as I know, he has a miniscule amount of experience doing this. Nobody is perfect at anything when they first start out at it. Everything takes practice to improve.

I'm probably overly explaining, but yeah I think Greg is awesome and I am very excited for this jacket. I expect it to be amazing.

@dudewuttheheck Could you post some pictures of the Freewheelers/Bootleggers version, haven’t been able to find it online. You said it was called the Pasadena right?
This is the Freewheelers version. I sent him photos of vintage examples from some Japanese magazines that I have and the Real McCoys New Zealand version as well. I believe he is basically going off of this FW version though as he said he liked it the most a lot.

...ugh... the pattern is gorgeous as are the details and materials, but the two tone leather makes me wanna vomit.

I sent him more than this, but I don't want to overly spam this thread.
