I would have sold it for the $850 he'll be lucky to get.
I mean it's white AND it's a small size...

It is a size 42 but seller hasn't added measurements(No measurements, not buying).

For sure to all of the above. What's even harder, and what's kept me away from the brand (given my habit and behavior) is the staggering loss that Himel jackets (or any maker at those heights of price) receive in the resale market. My catch and release model in this hobby doesn't fit into that price structure, despite the lovely jackets, I'm sure I'd grow bored of them and sell them all the same... But at a much greater loss over investment.

You would be surprised at the amazing deals I get on Ebay for garments of japanese brands or made in japan(Hellers Cafe, Warehouse Co, Eastman Leather Clothing tees ) that are very sought after when new. I think that one of the few brands that keep the value is Mister Freedom clothes.

Himel jackets are usually sold for around $1000-1200 on Ebay or around here except for the most expensive models so one has to be very sure that he will love the jacket before comiting. They are in a price range that a buyer will most likely prefer to buy new instead of buying used just to save a few hundred dollars.

yeah pretty much this, If you gonna do a full bespoke Himel, you better think about it as a forever thing unless you are made of money. But then again plenty of people (like me) hoard things in hobbies and never resell.

Would you pick up a bargain second hand Himel though? that way the loss wouldn't be huge when you resell

I'd love to know if that was an original option back in the day. The only B/W two tones I've seen as original vintage were 70s jackets, Perfecto-style; they were a popular enough option on the London punk scene where leathers were often rather more decorated than was common in the CBGBs crowd.

Edward I was trawling through some old pics just today and came across this old catalogue scan. The exact age I'm not sure of, but it's clearly in the middle 1950s:

So they were at least as old as that. Surprising, eh?

I would suspect coloured leathers are even much older than this

Great deal on an Aero NYPD police jacket, size 42. These are rare, no longer made and this one seems to be brand new! Only $300 which is as good a deal as you'll get for this baby, IMO. I'd jump on it right this second if it was smaller.

Must be old stock or a trade-in; IronHeart threw their lot in with Alexander Leathers, as was, as I recall, and they've not stocked Aero in some time. Good bargain for somebody who wants that NYPD style. Great one for Gotham fans.

No kidding? Hmm, it is way too small for me but perhaps a low-ball offer would get it done? Or is he married to his idea of the "worth" of the jacket? Three years is hella long time.

Normally when I see things like that with a crazy high reserve price of fixed price with 'offers' option, I wonder whether someone is trying to gauge current market value without having to actually commit to selling something they don't really want to sell (though would part with for crazy money). After three years, though, I would start to wonder if this is one that the seller has been told to sell by a Higher Power, yet doesn't really want to part with. "Gee, honey, nobody seems to want to buy it, guess I'll just have to keep it...."

This is also true. White jackets aren't always so popular. Same with the vintage Lewis market - black and navy sell well; blaze orange (despite being much rarer) not so much....

Thanks - very cool. I wonder how many 'regular guys' like the one pictured in the ads bought them! (I also wonder was the two-tone originally a way to try to 'soften' the look after the black leather jacket became regarded as a bit 'bad boy'?)

This is a question I raised a few years ago when there was that very brief vogue for blue leather jackets. 99% of surviving vintage examples seem to be brown or black; you start to see more deep green and navy blue types in bike jackets from the later sixties and onwards (by 1978, Lewis were marketing 'blaze orange' as a safety feature). Coloured leather wasn't unknown until the Sixties, though: I grew up around pre-war vintage cars being restored, and they had red, blue, burgundy, ivory, green.... pretty much any leather could you can think of covering their seats. I know there were varsity / college jackets made in all sorts of colours back in the day, but surely somebody must have thought to make a halfbelt.... (The original 1 was olive, if memory serves). I'm keen on a blue Aeromarine one day.

At a wild guess, I'd say simply most of the market was more conservative in its choices and preferred 'regular' browns and black. Little different than TFL today, really.
