Went to see the new Spiderman with my boy recently and this caught my eye. Don't know what it is but given the expense of product placement in a Marvel movie, I'm guessing Belstaff. Well worn and fits him well.

I like the actor, he's perfected the role of middle eastern terrorist and bad guy in general in so many films.

Just returned from a vacation in northern Michigan. During my trip, I saw this in an antique shop. Presumably goatskin. Electrically heated (although I'm not sure I'd try plugging it in). I never knew such a flight suit existed:

That’s a rare bird and nice find Gamma. It’s about as pristine condition as i’ve ever seen. Most are pretty sad shape. That price seems extremely good. And i thought my orange one was cool! Lol
Did you buy it??

Beautiful. Now I need a padded Cal.

How would you compare modern versus vintage?

Well, I noticed there are plenty details which help to establish a period, e.g: the stitching drawing, the belt area thickness, zippers (of course!), lappels shape, the point where collar snaps are placed, the maker label (if it still exists), the kind of leather, even the epaulettes shape.

I don't know if there are differences in Langlitz, Vanson, Aero or Schott on jackets from different periods. Do their patterns have changed over the years?

Thank you. Yes, subtle and less subtle differences like you describe. Definitely the leather changes. Patterns change or are tweaked.

Is the new leather on the Cal as thick and heavy? Any other differences in leather, other than the fact that it seems that nowadays Cal uses more cow.

Thanks for the time. I really like Cals.

Schott have changed a little over the years. The basic jackets look very similar now, but minor details have changed - cow now vastly more common than horse; logo'ed studs on the jackets (originally plain), sometime around the late eighties / early 90s, the 118 in addition to being naked cowhide (c/f the 618's chrome 'steer') was upsized, so a 44 118 is now the same as a 46 618, a 46 an 48, and so on.

Can't directly comment on Langlitz or Vanson, but I imagine there have been changes over the years. Aero have had very few changes to individual models; given that they have always been focussed on creating jackets with a "pre-1959" design mindset, they don't change with fashion in the same was a contemporary-focussed brand will. I do know, however, that Ken did a lot of work post 2012 on their military patterns; the A2s are now extremely accurate for the contract models, and the Irvins are spot on, not blighted by the very tubular, slim sleeves they had for some years.
