Saw this post on Instagram. It’s a Schott. Makes me want to wear the hell out of mine to achieve this level of break-in.

Man, I don't know, I still find the branding patch on the chest completely garish. Especially at that price point. Turns me off from ever considering a Lewis... but that's just me.
A year ago I felt the same about the branding patch. But now that I own a couple of LL, I somehow don't mind it anymore. I think I've seen so many that I've gotten used to it.

I’ll order one without the patch if I end up clicking that BUY button my cursor keeps hovering over.

Are you sure? Have you visited their 'gallery'?

Look at all those famous wearers looking cool in their LL with brand patch. Personally I don't look at these pics and think "those jackets are super cool, if only they didn't have the patch". They are cool as-is. To me, without the patch they would look like some Japanese copy or like one of the many British copies from the 80s.

Point taken. If I were buying used I could certainly live with it for those reasons, but I generally dislike any form of branding.

I never understood what the issue with LL logo patch is. It's not like they're Gucci or something tacky like that. Most people won't have a clue what Lewis Leathers is, let alone how much you paid for your jacket. And those who will are cool people you want to hang out with, anyway. Lewis Leathers may cost a lot but while they may be fashion, they're certainly not a luxury brand. Branding is a huge part of their motorcycle gear heritage.

I’m stilling mulling over whether I’d get a lot of wear out of a LL Lightning and trawling through Insta pics for inspiration. Decisions, decisions …

Do it! It's the English Perfecto (even more so than the more obviously influenced Bronx.... Way I see it, the Bronx was the prototype, the Lightning the fully realised version....).

I believe that's why Lewis go through phases of declining to make them without the patch. I've never been able to pin down when they started putting it on there, though late 60s, possibly 68 is my best estimate. The biggest Lewis market here in the UK, the Rocker Revival scene, doesn't mind the patch clearly - and Lewis gear there is *the* thing to have. Back in the day, while many wore cheaper gear out of financial limits, the two big rivals as the desirable 'names' were Lewis and Rivetts/Highwayman; Lewis won out in the end - they bought Rivetts and simply dropped the brand altogether.

For myself, if I were ordering a custom Lightning, I'd likely go patchless. 'With' is not a dealbreaker if I hit on the right used or sale deal, but ideally I prefer the original, 1958 spec with no logo and, more significantly imo, no extra forearm pocket.

Its pictures like this that illustrate why I prefer owning 1 or 2 jackets as opposed to 10-100. You’ll never achieve that look if you don’t put in the time.
this right here. I don't know about 1 or 2, but definitely trying to reduce some. I'd be happy with 12, one per month so to speak to cover some weather scenarios and outfit potential. Luckily the bulk of my collection is used jackets, so someone put in a head start for me, but yeah, it's all about the wears. Started getting in some good time these past few days even though it's nearing 100 outside LOL. A few hours in the morning, few hours at night. Boxer shorts and leather jackets. The cool kids are doing it.

Are the headaches associated with vintage jackets what keeps you away from that market? With your build, you’d have some awesome options.
