GTD...I skipped the battle area this year and just went to the local downtown festival. The rain is the norm for the battle, but the last few years have been nice...Maybe next year we can get together with IC and all go to the battle.:D :eusa_clap

Campdraft used to protect my head while keeping the Barn from flooding. Luckily, most of the dirt had fallen/washed off.

Keygrip, I haven't seen a Campdraft with a darker ribbon and binding like that one before. Have you had that one a while? What color is it?

Got into heavy snow on my way home..I was extremly happy to have my hat with me:) Most of the snow from my jacket had melted on my way inside my room, it initially was all white when I arrived.
Had a nice even layer of snow on the hat..did not seem to bother it at all:)

Well, I just found this picture from back in July 2008 of my beloved Stetson Sovereign cowboy hat wet from a rainshower.

I hope the picture comes through, because I'm trying out Picasa...

I decided that I would actually wear the Official Indiana Jones fedora, after leaving it on the hat stand for months. After seeing other hats and roaming the Lounge, all I can see in it is "cheap hat"-- even if others probably can't tell. I actually did get a "nice hat" comment though [huh] I got hit by some sporadic Georgia weather, some on/off, sideways/straight rain and it seemed to make it fine without bleeding dye or anything.

It is rainy today so I wore my Stetson Temple to the store...

The result of a light rain.

Alright, so update us please, on how this hat handled that. My black one, when misted in the same amount seemed fine and then the next day, once it had dried, the brim was all wonky. Made me understand what the folks had meant about modern hats not being as hardy as the oldies. Was my Temple's reaction to light rain unique or did yours do the bendy brim bit too?

HPGene...the hat is still drying...but you made me look closer. While I'm not quite sure what you mean by wonky I do notice that the felt on the crease on top and the pinch is becoming a bit bumpy...

Funny thing is my natural tendency was to wear a new hat rather than one of my vintage ones...I didn't want to get one of them wet [huh]

I'll post more pictures when it is completely dry.

Fierce Georgia Snow

Well... fierce for Georgia at least [huh] I got out of church and there was a good 1-2" of snow packed on top of my car- we're lucky to get that all year much less in one hour! The weather here can just be crazy sometimes. Some winters we're lucky to even have snow, and now here we are in March with a whole bunch!

My vintage Bond proves that you're never too old to play in the snow ;)

edit: my school's spring break is in a week too!!

When I think about it, it's kind of depressing that a product that is in theory designed to protect you from the elements itself needs to be protected from the elements. :(

Tom

even more : )

after getting back from church, I decided to get suited up and head back outside with my camera (i haven't seen a lot of snow in a VERY long time!) I braved the cold with my Fed IV and my hat flap:

You guys are so frustrating to me! I swear, since I've picked up the hat bug this past two months I have not seen one darned drop of precip. No rain, no snow, nothing! Maybe when the Oklahoma tornados pick up in a couple of months I'll be able to post to this thread!

Don't you just hate it when the weather's nice?

We had a pretty good snowstorm the other night, but I had the good sense to stay inside and read the Fedora Lounge board. :)

Wonky, wavy, warped. :) It just curled in weird directions. I believe I used steam to get it back in shape but it has a different aspect to it now and the crown tapered a little too. Wearable though, in fact I wore it for a Mardi Gras shindig the other day.

The best gullywasher downpour extended soaking any of my hats endured was when I got caught in one of our summer thunderboomers wearing a vintage Open Road with a cattleman's crease. That hat protected ME and dried just fine after I walked several blocks to home in the storm. No malformation at all. In fact, a too-soft spot on the crown where the crease used to dent in too much sort of tightened up after that and became better. I think vintage felt and a bound edge is a good combination for wet weather.
