Five mile hike in the Campdraft. It soaked through.

After preparing the outdoor equipment, etc as the remnants of Patricia blew through. My head stayed dry and the hat dried out without an issue. Very little penetrated through the felt.

Harv how did the CD hold up with the soaking?

Roger, I just saw your post. Sorry for the delay. Both of my CDs love to get wet. They seem to get softer and fit better when they get a good soaking. I have not noticed any deformity or degradation in the felt. The Australian bunny felt seems to love water. The brim and crown soaked through, but my head kept relatively dry, which is a bonus when you have no hair. ;)

Harv, Zombie, RJR, thanks for the input guys. It never rains enough here to get my Akubras wet or if it does I'm always at work and inside. I guess that's not a reason to complain though! :D

The thing I find interesting is that I use distilled water to shape my Akubras, but it doesn't seem to affect the felt the same as rain water does--spray 'em, shape 'em, and let 'em dry, and the felt feels the same as it did before I shaped them. But let a little rain fall on them, and it's just as Harv described above in post #569; the felt feels a bit softer, and they seem to fit just a little better. My guess is it's because the rain drops are bringing with them some of the pollution in our atmosphere and that somehow affects the felt, but whatever the reason the hats seem to feel, fit, and even look a little better after rain has soaked them a bit. And, of course, you can always take the opportunity to refine the crease a little if you like.
