My last custom hat was some time ago. I did a southwestern take on the Bob Dylan Rolling Thunder hat for a good man in New Mexico. Lately, I've been busy learning metal engraving and making silver coin rings. I've come to realize that it's not so much the hobbies that I love, but rather the tools I get to buy to do those hobbies.

Beautiful! If we are so inclined, how do we go about ordering a ring?

Are you still pursuing custom made footwear?

I'm not making anything at all to sell these days old friend and likely won't until I go to full retirement. For now, it's all just for fun and to add to the skillset. I've made a few pairs of shoes that are less than stellar examples of the cobbler's art. I'll keep practicing, but I'm easily side-tracked by other interesting pursuits.
I'll be sending you an email soon to chat about your nutria hat. In the meantime, I hope you and yours are are happy and healthy.

Looks like the rings showcased were made using the swedish wrap method to get it flat versus the fat tire look. They look good. Congrats.

We are all doing well, thank you. I do miss collaborating with you, but I’m definitely still enjoying the hats you’ve made me. I look forward to hearing from you.

You are correct Kevin. I went down the rabbit hole with this new hobby. All the best tools, none of the talent.
I have been thinking about going down this rabbit hole as well. I have been looking at the Jason Works tools for their ultimate set. I too am a collector of hobbies and tools :) Some things I am also looking at are making marbled paper and making round hat boxes. I will start my first hat box after I finish a hat for Brent (as work allows).

Your rings look great, so I don't believe the "none of the talent" part. Keep it up.

Be well Rick!

Most of my kit is from Jason. Excellent tools and good people to work with. Good luck with the hat boxes. I'll be looking forward to seeing your work.

Hey Rick
Let me know when. you have decided what my next hat from you should be. A straw would be nice, but, something light in color for the Tropics.
No rush,
Be well.
Peace,
David
Greetings David. You're definitely on my list for a Milan straw hat. Just gotta make sure it's worthy of a cool cat like you and your Eden-like environment.

The hat on the man from New Mexico. I apologize for not posting this sooner. I have a story about this hat, originally planned for a big birthday. The COVID pandemic and a bunch of other life events altered those plans. I love the hat, it has been on a couple of road trips and celebrated at least my wife's birthday. More on the hat story soon.

The Rolling Thunder hat? A great hat & nice tight bead work on the hatband.

The Trekker left the east coast and made a cross country adventure for the first time. Hopping from Seattle to Portland, then Beach combing on coastal Oregon at Haystack Rock followed by hiking Ecola State park.
Then riding the Empire Builder Amtrak line across Glacier National Park and the snow covered Great Plains to Chicago. Where it has now been face to face with Sue the T-Rex at the Field museum, one of the largest and most complete fossils of the species.

The Trekker is living up to it’s name and it kept me dry and warm wandering the northwest or the blistering cold stopping off in Montana. I’m happy to be making adventures with this hat.
However now back East, I did get caught in consistent rain yesterday working outside for 12 hours. The leather hat band got soaked. It looks a little looser this morning. Is that anything to worry about? It’s usually quite snug around the crown. Wondering it it will shrink back in time.
