Phoenix Hat Company

Only finishing touches left and I’m hoping it will ship early next week. Rick has been great to work with and I can’t help but to juxtapose his hat and my experience with him to the Staker Custom Hats fedora I received a couple of weeks ago. Phoenix is just a bit more expensive, but I can already tell it’s going to be orders of magnitude better (and 100% beaver and not rabbit to boot!). If the mercury wasn’t flirting with 90 I’d be placing another order right now.

Thanks Brent. You've been a real pleasure to work with as well. As you know, this binding is getting redone before shipment and it's not my favorite part of the process, but it's made a little more enjoyable by the use of my Davis walking foot, hand crank sewing machine that was made in 1897.

You just have to love and admire these old, still functional pieces of American history.

I like the idea of vintage machines creating a vintage look. Love that crown height, 6"? I'm sure Brent will be pleased with this one.

I have an order in with Rick. I asked him to make me a replica of Aberama Gold's fedora from Peaky Blinders. Thought I was finished collecting then this comes along. Asked for an August delivery as I am travelling....a long time to anticipate!!

Your hat order got me curious, of course, about the real Peaky Blinders gang in Burmingham. They were said to be stylish, cunning, and ruthless. What a fine bunch of fellows.

Any chance you have a photo of the fedora you commissioned? I’m always curious to see other’s hats. I just ordered another; a black cherry but I’m still working out the specifics.

Google "Aberama Gold pictures". You will get a portfolio of him in his signature brown fedora. Tall square crown, medium brim. Very much like a Gannon.

My first Fepsa felt arrived today. I really didn't think these Fepsa hat bodies could possibly live up to all the positive things I've heard about them. I was wrong. This one is their fur/hare body in camel color with the suede finish and I just can't help but marvel at the tightness of the felt and the incredible hand of the suede finish. I think even a hack hatter like myself would have a hard time screwing this one up.

Yep. They do have limited colors and finish options available to order online, but I'm sure your head size could be accommodated. I was impressed with their service and communication. Delivered just 9 days after date of order. The only drawback was that the shipping cost was more than the cost of the single hat body. I was willing to pay it, though, just to satisfy my curiosity about the quality of their felt. Definitely not disappointed. As a side note, the new ribbon is arriving today and I'll send you some pics this weekend against the black cherry hat body.

Thanks Rick. So if I understand you right, I need to have you order me several FEPSA hat bodies for the shipping to make sense. :)
