It's a very fine looking hat and a great job by Rick. Very versatile with those colours and the heather look of the felt. The frayed bow is a cool touch. Lovely! This hat just arrived, courtesy of Rick's elves. They definitely hadn't been drinking when they finished this beauty up!
This is a natural color beaver body with navy ribbon. It is a shameless copy of one Rick made a few months back, except for the size. It is a 7-3/4 hat with a 3" brim and almost 5-1/4" crown, measured at the front of the teardrop crease. Rick really came through with the tall, boxy crown that I like to balance the wide brim I prefer. The felt has a really nice, soft finish to it, although the felt itself is a little stiff because this is a mid-weight Western body to help the wide brim hold its shape. We had discussed this before, and Rick knows I like a stiffer felt than the vintage dress hats have.
I'm not a flashy dresser (no Hawaiian shirts in my closet!), so the subdued brown/gray and navy colors will really blend well with a lot of what I wear. Rick's "Trekker" hat has become my go-to outdoors hat, and I can easily see this one becoming my "casual trip to town" hat. My wife is gone with the grandkids for a quick Christmas trip, so is it wrong to wear this around inside the house to "break it in"?
I hope everyone has a great weekend, especially those in the path of the "Great East Coast Blizzard of '18"
