Hopefully this new film will shake the studio up into putting out Farewell My Lovely on DVD, since the withdrawn Pioneer 1999 U.S. DVD is way overpriced on the collectors market for what it is.

A cleaned up print on a new DVD, with some extras would be nice.

Wow...I didnt realize how rare it was. I have the DVD version, crappy full screen and full of scratches.

There is a copy currently up for auction on Ebay and its only at $26 now.

Let's hope for a remaster, widescreen version.

Elliot Gould will always be my favorite Marlowe. My apologies to everyone else at the Lounge for saying so. (I've listened to Chandler books on tape by Gould!)

Powers Boothe was a pretty good portrayal, too, I think.

I gotta say, though, Mitchum in Out of the Past is not Marlowe to me. He's too tragic and he's too unheroic in a chilvarous sense. (I think Dick Powell in Murder My Sweet is a better portrayal.) However, I think Mitchum in Farewell, My Lovely was absolutely perfect in all areas except for the age.

Clive Owen ... I don't know where you guys get the "good actor" opinion of him. He can't act at all. However, he's got a lot of charisma and screen presence and I think he can pull off Marlowe.
