Right. They've had early July summer sales 2 years in a row. No reason to believe they won't again.

This is frustrating. I called asking about the FL special pricing and they called me back the next day saying that Brad was not going to do the sale this year, I knew I should of waited!!!!! I wanted to get some type of straw hat before May since you never know when this heat and humidity is going to get bad in NC and from reading many posts on FL this seemed like the best choice. Then again did the $100 rate include brim binding? I thought I read that it was an extra $25 or $35 if so than on the low end with shipping that would bring the total to $145 or so a $25 saving not $50.

Get it, wear it...It's like a couple of beers more or less, that's what you work for my friend.

AND you will have the chance to wear it all spring and summer and not only a couple of months !!

Boy If I could count all the Hats that went on Sale the next day after I purchased , or that I held off on ordering waiting for a Sale , only for my size to vanish . Bids that I made on Hats I could have won , losing by a dollar or two , kicking myself after I lost . Or Hats I bought and never wore . If its a Hat you would like and wear $25 or $50 isn't going to mean anything in the long haul . Also ...

If they go on Sale later , and you have one , by then you might like another in an alternative color or style , so you know , and save a few bucks on #2 . I bought two Hats that were exactly the same I loved the weave so much , so did a different crease and roll to mix it up . Never know when they might be discontinued . Not likely in this case , but stuff rarely gets less expensive overall . And its a Custom to boot . The difference isn't that much , get it and enjoy the Hat . Take a picture and show it off . The Tankersley is a Killer Hat designed to the specs of a Premo Hat Aficionado . It will be Killer , you'll love it .

Waiting for one right now. Should ship in a day or so. Tried to post the picture they sent but got a message that it is too large. Anyway Pecan, felt 3", brim 6" straight crown with a bound edge and wind cord. I am looking forward to receiving it. Will try to post pictures. I ordered this before I saw the M.C. Gannon thread. If I had seen that first I would be wearing one of their's right now. There is always next time I suppose and I have had good luck with Peter Bros. in the past.

I don't want to talk trash here, either, but last year when I was at the VS shop in Medford, Art had a nice Milan (not hemp) there for about $9 more than what's being quoted here ($150+20=$170).

So, what's the difference between a straw Milan, a hemp Milan, and a paja toquilla (straw) hat from Ecuador when comparing weight, wear-ability, etc, etc.??? All I have experience with is my Cuenca straw hat and an old Wormser Milan and it seems pretty light.

The hemp is a new material for me. Is it as light as a Milan straw or a Panama straw? Am I correct in my understanding that hemp is quite a bit more durable than the others?

BTW, about the math: 23" x (2.54) = 58.42 cm. http://manuelsweb.com/in_cm.htm

My noggin measure 23-3/8" (slightly LO) which sits between a size 7-3/8 and size 7-1/2. If I have to order by size of the rack I do size 7-1/2 or 59.5 - 60 cm

A nice custom fit Milan for $100 sounds nice, but if it arrives more like a modern Off-The-Shelf size then I'll pass.

Finally got some good light the other day to photograph the new Milan Strat clone I received from Peters Bros last week. As it's black, with a dark green ribbon, the colors are pretty hard to get right. These photos are the best I could do. It looks better in person.

My first custom hat. Shane took my order when I was in Ft. Worth in January. With the combination of head measuring and checking it against the hat I was wearing on a sizer, they got my size dead on. It fits great. I asked him to make it 6" open crown, so there is some height to the crown. It's 5 14" at the front peak, and 5 1/2" on the sides. I do believe I want to work the back down about 1/2" to give it a rake, though. And probably tighten the front pinch. It's pretty stiff, but light and airy. It's going to be a great summer lid - cool and breezy.

So hats off to Peters Bros. They did a fantastic job and they give great service.

Finally got a couple preliminary pics of my PB "Tankersley" which I requested in natural color, slight rake and slightly lower open crown. The measurements are a little over 4 1/4" in the front and 4" in the back. Sounds to me more like the specs of a strat (just measured my modern strat). Looks like ~1" lower I believe the target was ~1/2" lower. Not sure what I will do. Anyway they still have the 3/8" dark green ribbon and considering that and a couple other wider rust and rusty/brown ribbons.

Sounds like OR measurements on the crown to me , Strat has 5 3/4" Open Crown , and OR have 5" Open Crown (modern anyway) . Still looks Great , just not the Tank (ersley) . Enjoy your Peters Bros. Hemp or Milan , whichever .

That's "Tankersley," bub, and I'll thank you to capitalize it! [emoji14]

Seriously, it basically is a Strat/OR clone. I just spec-ed it with a pretty tall crown and nice wide brim. The reason it got that name is some loungers started calling PB and asking for the "same specs as Tankersley got."

Apparently it stuck. I still find it amusing. Like having a sammich named after you at the deli, LOL.

Yours is looking good, though. Can't wait to see noggin shots!

last year when I got mine ... while on the phone with him he literally said ... "we just call it the Tankersley around here"

so it sounds like the name came from them to make it easier when folks called wanting specs like yours

and I think I have the second Tankersley to yours

Sorry about the name....correction made!!! Actually talking to Shane I had to send him some pics of the 2 "Tankersley" hats to jog his memory. I think I will stick with these measurements which match up with my modern strat, higher crowns are nice but for a summer casual hat for me at least I think this would be a better fit. Now just to narrow down the ribbon to wither the 3/8" forest green or 5/8" Rust...I think I may go with the rust color. Also I am going to make sure inside dimensions are correct!
