Someone described the process of ironing the brim of a hemp hat some time ago, but I'll be darned if I can find it. The brim of my black hemp curled up some time ago due to the spacer I'd inserted into the back of the sweatband. I'm wondering if I should try to fix it myself (and possibly permanently damage the hat) or return it to PB for repairs. Any opinions or advice?

I'd probably try a steam iron and press cloth. If you're uncomfortable trying that, call PB and ask.

I just received (07/28) A custom hemp Milan from Peter Bros. Ordered on July 1, I think. It is a natural with a 5" center dent crease, a 2 7/8" brim with a 1" black ribbon. It turned out very well for a first custom hat.

A few comments though. I ordered a size 61 which is my regular size but it seemed quite large. A few dollar bills rolled up behind the sweat has taken care of that nicely. I prefer my hats roomy and would always prefer large to small. The crown is great, tall and straight no taper at all, just as I like it. It seems a little taller than 5" but I am not complaining.

My regular felt is a Camp Draft. While I love the Camp Drafts, this hat makes me want to order a Custom Felt from Peter Bros. to get exactly what I want.

As the summer quickly comes to the south I am considering adding a panama/Milan/hemp/straw type fedora style hat to the rotation before the heat and humidity prevent the daily wear of my modest fur felt collection (or they will be dripping wet with sweat and probably get stained). I came across this thread regarding custom hemp Milans from Peter Bros, seems like many are happy with them. Wondering if anybody had any current info such as wait time and pricing? I want to consider them and also look into my other options for this type of hat. Thanks.

Brad Peters is the owner and Shane makes the hats. Both are readily avaliable by phone. Call em. They were offering their Milan hemps to Loungers for a great price of $100-$125. Only way to find out details abt that is simply to call and ask.

They could tell you , and they run specials at times , usually at the end of the season , I think . Check the website : www.pbhats.com

Listen to Bob , he knows .

Thanks everyone. Sounds like I need to give them a call. I better first re-read this thread and have a better idea on specs before hand, just in case.....

They do a very nice hemp Stratoliner, of which I have two that I love. Both are very light and their leather sweatbands are extremely comfortable and soft. I'm toying with the idea of a green one at the moment. Best of all, you can customize your crown height, brim length, ribbon, etc.

I went and gave Peters Bros a call this afternoon. Talked with Shane a bit and he is going to get a hold of Brad to see if there is any FL discounts. Good news is they found another spool of the forest green ribbon...

They called me back this afternoon, unfortunately no more FL pricing. Regardless I went and put my order in for a modified "Tankersley" with a slightly lower crown, slight rake in natural. Ribbon treatment (matching brim edging) TBD.

I have read some people having issues with sizing being too tight? I ordered a 23" (which I was told the blocks they use for 7 1/4); I figured that would be a 7 3/8 (almost a size up), am I wrong?
