I picked up a real cheap paper "straw" hat (please don't hit me) today. Mostly, I wanted a summer beater. Anyway, I got home and cut the tags off, and happened to look at them. One contained a bit of common FL wisdom that was nice to see displayed in the proper place. Here's what it said;
"Doctors agree that hats are the most effective method of keeping yourself warm and protecting your skin against the sun's harmful rays. By Purchasing this hand-crafted hat you are choosing a fashionable accessory that is both comfortable and a benefit to your health."

I don't buy that "hand-crafted" part, but I felt like I had done the complete opposite of reading a Surgeon General warning on a pack of smokes. It made me feel all warm and fuzzy... oh wait, that's just my stubby hair rubbing against the inside of my hat! lol

My first hat came with the same thing, it also came with a "Made in China" tag, so it's quite possible it was hand-crafted, just with cheap labor in a sweatshop :p

Heck I have 3 straws. One is an Ecuadorian vintage Panama I got for $12. I also found a Resistol Panama and a Dobbs with a narrower brim both for $6 on Ebay. No need to buy cheezy hats when you can find nice ones so cheap.[huh]

If only I were that lucky Twitch. I have been hunting for a nice one on ebay for two years and found nothing I like in my size. I've only gotten lucky on hat auctions twice - both felt open roads from the sixties. Worst part of it is, I used to wear a 7 3/8, all I could find were 7 1/4 or 7 1/2. Now I'm a 7 1/2, all I find are 7 3/8 or 7 5/8. :rage: And yes, for my head, 5/8 is way too big. :(

Being bald myself it does help my head not get burnt... People think I like to wear hats because I'm bald...

Hell I think my bald head is sexy... I just like hats. ;)
