Pendleton Jackets

This is an old thread, but Pendleton 49er jackets have been mentioned recently and it got me started searching for one...

I gather the large abalone buttons and two pocket are clues to the older jackets, is that correct? And I read above that the Woolmark labels mean a jacket is from the 60s, not the late 40s/50s.

I've seen collar differences mentioned as a way of dating these jackets, but can anyone share a little more detail about what to look for? Or any other clues to help a novice figure out what she's buying?

Thanks!

Nico

Pendleton is a brand that has stood for top quality for decades. As far as I know, it still does. They have sold tons of garments, but anything that's a Pendleton should be a solid garment, whatever the decade.

Yes Pendleton has been around a very long time. Shadow or muted plaids are sought after. Although they have their own sheep and manufacture fabric they send the Virgin wool out to be assembled. I have several pieces and they are superb. The board shirts are also sought after and are still made. I have a new one and it is 100 percent virgin wool muted plaid. Definitely visit the site.
Woolrich also make and made fine products. The vintage being better. On Ebay they do not sell particularly high as there are many items in circulation. The western muted plaids are still made and the virgin wool fabric is still being spun so rarity is limited to certain items, blankets particularly and rarer board shirts.
Bottom line is they are still being made and made well.

All of the 49ers have the MOP buttons and the two pockets, AFAIK. The really new ones will have a non yellow thread label and a size label.

This sure is an old thread, not a lot of Pendleton wearers I guess. Wrong time of year for jackets, but I have wanted this pattern and color. Bought one last night on auction.

Congratulations Desert dog, that is a jacket and a half! From time to time I find myself looking at these Pendleton western jackets and coats and I will probably snag one myself one of these days.

Pendleton's Aztec patterns are so good and the colors on that one look as if they popped up from that desert you live with.

Don't have a jacket, Dd but that one makes me a bit anxious. I do have quite a few of their HGWW shirts. Good stuff.
